PentaxPentax Optio WP review : The Pentax Optio WP compact digital camera features JIS Class 8-equivalent waterproof performance and has a body only 22mm thick. What's more, the new Optio WP also features a 2.0-inch LCD monitor, a 3X optical zoom lens and the imaging power of 5.0 effective megapixels. Developed in line with the three keywords, 'Sportiness', 'Elegance', and, 'Leisure', the OptioWP provides the user with the advantage of waterproof performance that enables confident shooting during a range of water sports. And unusually for a camera with such sporting capability, the Pentax WP also has surprisingly sophisticated styling that makes it ideal for use on practically any kind of occasion.
Pentax Optio WP reviewPentax Optio WP - Point & Shoot
The Pentax Optio WP is a true 'point & shoot' digital camera. You can't adjust too much yourself, but most users certainly won't object to that. It is a straightforward digital camera, easy to use and operate. The camera is well organized, even without a manual most users will get the hang of it. Very handy is the extra information that is offered with the icons. The 5 Megapixels and the 3x optical zoom of the Optio WP will defintely satisfy the minimum requirements of most travellers.

Pentax WP camera - Waterproof
Offering JIS Class 8-equivalent waterproof performance, the OptioWP enables the user to shoot continuously for up to approx. 30 minutes underwater at a maximum depth of 1.5m. Such waterproof capability also allows the user to wash the camera with water to rinse away sand and dirt. The perfect companion for watersports, skiing and other outdoor leisure activities, the Pentax WP also allows the user to shoot in places that would be too dirty to take other cameras.

Pentax Optio WP - Lens
The five Megapixels of resolution are sufficient to enable the Pentax Optio WP delivering fine enlarged prints. The lens offers a 3x optical zoom ranging from 38mm to 114mm, actually a universal range. The fact that the Optio WP is waterproof makes the lens stay inside the camera, in stead of extending. If it did extend, water might enter through the seams. The construction of the lens is very special; it features eleven lens elements in nine groups. With great admiration we look at it and wonder how on earth Pentax did it…

Pentax WP - Large LCD monitor
Despite its compact and slim body dimensions of 102x51x22mm (WxHxD), the Pentax WP features a large, 2.0-inch LCD monitor. Incorporating low-reflection technology and a backlighting system, this LCD monitor remains extremely easy to view, even when used outdoors on sunny days. The LCD monitor also features a power saving mode that extends battery life by automatically reducing the intensity of the aforementioned backlighting.

Pentax Optio WP review
Pentax aims at the average consumer with the Optio WP: the photographer who just wants to shoot snapshots without having to worry about settings and stuff. Therefore the Pentax WP is a straightforward camera. You won't find aperture or shutter priority on this camera, let alone a fully manual operation. In stead the Optio WP works with pre-programmed settings. However, there are still many things on the WP that can be adjusted. We received the Pentax Optio WP and were able to review the camera thoroughly in the wettest summer ever in Holland; at least we had a good chance to test the water resistance of the camera! Our experiences can be found in the following digital camera review.
