KodakEastman Kodak Company today introduced the Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n Digital Camera in a 512MB RAM version that delivers a greater burst depth for superb performance and flexibility. In addition, Kodak in late September will post on its website firmware v4.4 for the Pro 14n camera as well as the updated Kodak Professional DCS Photo Desk v3.2 software for all Kodak Professional DCS digital cameras. Kodak also announced that the Pro 14n camera the world's highest resolution, upgradeable, full-frame digital SLR camera that's compatible with Nikon lenses is out of backorder and is available immediately from authorized dealers of Kodak Professional digital cameras worldwide.
Kodak's Pro 14n camera with 512MB RAM ideal for commercial, portrait, corporate, event and other professional photographers who shoot in controlled-lighting or more brightly lit environments or at lower ISO settings is priced only slightly higher than the original Pro 14n camera equipped with 256MB RAM. It achieves a much greater burst depth (~20 RAW files compared to ~seven) so photographers won't miss any action. Photographers who own the original version of the Pro 14n camera can upgrade to 512MB by sending their camera to any of the Kodak Digital Imaging Support Centers worldwide (pricing varies by country).

"Demand for the Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n Digital Camera has been exceptionally strong for months, and we're thrilled to be out of backorder and ready to fulfill orders right away for photographers who want all the benefits of upgradeability, a full-frame sensor and the highest resolution available from any digital SLR camera," said Madhav Mehra, General Manager, Professional Digital Cameras, Eastman Kodak Company. "By doubling the memory of this camera which is upgradeable through firmware downloads and accepts virtually every Nikon lens we're giving photographers high performance at a very affordable price."

The Pro 14n camera also features a functional ISO range that meets the requirements of the vast majority of professional and amateur photographers and photographic applications, as well as full compatibility with Kodak's renowned DCR RAW and ERI-JPEG image file formats. It comes with a reliable limited warranty and is backed by ongoing Kodak service and support. And with upcoming upgrades to the Pro 14n camera's firmware and workflow software, taking and making high-quality images from high-resolution digital files is exceptionally easy.

The latest Pro 14n camera firmware upgrade adds a variety of enhancements to optimize its image quality and performance. Key firmware enhancements include: improved long exposure mode, in-camera selection of DCS Wedding or DCS Event color and contrast "Looks" (previously selectable only in Photo Desk v3.1 software), improved lens settings for many lenses, automatic image review on rear LCD screen and LCD brightness slider for full control of the rear display (in addition to the current contrast slider).

Additional features include a slide show feature, mirror pre-release for long exposures, improved focal length reporting for some zoom lenses, and the ability to support multiple Job Tracker files in the memory (includes a delete function).

The latest enhancements in DCS Photo Desk v3.2 software deliver performance improvements and workflow enhancements for images captured using any Kodak Professional DCS digital camera, including the Pro 14n camera. It includes the following: RGB sliders that fine-tune the white balance in the images. interactive histogram with white, black and midpoint controls, ability to view in contact sheet mode, higher-quality JPEG thumbnails for contact sheet mode, "Apply" buttons for white balance, noise reduction, sharpening, exposure compensation and exposure controls to enhance the "close-up view" mode compared to v3.1 software and the ability to "undo" the last image control change applied.

Beginning later this month, Kodak will take the Pro 14n camera and a team of imaging experts on an 11-city "road show" in the U.S. and Canada to offer marketing, sales and technical training to dealers and their customers. The sessions, featuring the participation of numerous photo labs and dealers, will include hands-on training with the camera and its software in both commercial and portrait studio settings. Images captured during these sessions will be printed on a Kodak Professional ML-500 Digital Photo Print System and Kodak Professional 8500 Digital Photo Printer, and by "host" labs to illustrate the camera's resolution and image quality.
