DCViews Nikon D50 digital camera review : The Dutch portal web site DCViews has published their review of the entry level Nikon digital SLR, the Nikon D50. The Nikon D50 is a very important camera for Nikon in the way that this product is Nikon's answer to the digital wave of all those Canon digital (SLR) cameras. The new digital SLR camera is equipped with a 6 Megapixel image sensor and uses the Nikon DX format sensor and Nikon F lens mount design shared by all Nikon SLR cameras for seamless compatibility with all AF Nikkor lenses, as well as the expanding family of high quality DX Nikkor lenses. The Nikon D50 with its all-round shooting options makes digital SLR photography a reality for everyone.

DCViews - Nikon D50 test
According to DCViews: "Appearances can be deceptive. At first sight the D50 looks identical to the D70s but when you pick it up you notice that the new camera is substantially lighter than its sister model.", "In general though we found the feel of all controls - with the exception of the 4-way dial - to be a bit more vague or woolly than before.", and "Even at higher ISO settings, pictures have plenty of detail, low noise and good tonal balance. Exposure was spot on all the time and during our tests white balance worked faultlessly under all lighting conditions."
DCViews - Conclusion
The Nikon D70s is a very good and well balanced digital SLR, and with the introduction of the Nikon D50 you would have expected more or less an entry level digital SLR camera with lesser settings, etc. However DCViews concludes that "the differences between the D50 and D70s are fairly minimal?". Are you interested in upgrading your compact digital camera or just picking up your old hobby and 'play' with the lenses and go out in the field with a bag full of accessories?
