Good old Steve Sanders of Steve's Digicams just posted his latest review of two new Super-zoom cameras. These two cameras are fairly priced for what they feature. The new 4MP Kodak EasyShare DX6490 and the 3MP Fujifilm FinePix S5000 are both compact cameras with a remarkable 10x optical zoom lens. The Kodak EasyShare DX6490 features a large, though not an OLED type, 2.2-inch color display and an electronic viewfinder. The zoom lens is fairly bright featuring f2,8 bright 38mm and f3,7 380mm (equivalent to 35mm camera). The second review is about the new Fujifilm FinePix S5000 camera. This new FinePix model is equipped with the latest generation of Super CCD sensors.

The fourth generation Super CCD HR is able to make a 6 Megapixel image out of a 3 Megapixel sensor. The FinePix S5000 features a 10x optical zoom lens and an electronic viewfinder too.
The 4-megapixel Easyshare DX6490 camera has been designed with some of the world's highest quality components working in concert to afford outstanding quality, even in challenging photographic situations. Imagine being able to capture the beauty and character of a friendly face while the sun sets in the background. With Kodak's integration of the Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 10X optical zoom lens, the Kodak Colour Science image processing chip, and intelligent matrix metering, photographers faced with this scenario will achieve portraits with edge-to-edge sharpness and brightness, rich color, and highly accurate exposure. Because of the tight incorporation of these and other sophisticated features, DX6490 camera owners are consistently presented with remarkable dynamic range, fine detail and delicate highlights, results that advanced amateurs have typically associated with high-end digital SLRs.
Take it on safari and the 10x zoom will truly encapsulate the detail of Serengeti life. The FujiFilm FinePix S5000's capacity for continuous shooting also guarantees you can track classic sporting moments frame by frame. It even achieves sharp focus on moving subjects, so memories of sporting events will no longer be ruined by far-off, blurry action shots. In addition to the spectacular zoom lens, the FinePix S5000 also boasts Fujifilm's Super CCD HR technology, ensuring images are clearer and sharper than cameras with a traditional CCD. Refined in-camera signal processing has taken Super CCD HR's performance to a new level of sharpness and image purity. What's more, the resulting 3.1 million effective and 6 million recorded pixels can be stored exactly as they were recorded, using the camera's RAW mode. There are other 10x optical zoom cameras available, but no other camera can boast the photographic achievement of packing such a powerful sensor and optical zoom into such a compact body. The FinePix S5000's 10x zoom lens is a real feat of optical engineering, and will quickly lay bare the limitations of the widely- misunderstood 'digital' zoom.
Those of you who are interested in a new compact Super-zoom camera should definitely read those reviews Steve has published! |
