KodakKodak EasyShare One camera shipment delayed : Eastman Kodak Co. said it will delay shipment of its Kodak EasyShare One digital camera to October, rather than starting sales next month as planned. The camera, which features a large liquid-crystal-display screen and a unique capability of wirelessly transmitting pictures to WiFi local area networks, was introduced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show where it won some awards for innovation. A Kodak spokesman declined to specify issues that led to the delay. He said: "This represents a significant technological advance in the digital camera marketplace. We're taking the time to do it right."

He added that the $699 camera will be available for the crucial holiday selling season and said the delay won't have any impact on Kodak's previous earnings guidance. The EasyShare One has Wi-Fi built in and was promised for June. Instead, it will ship in October, still in time for Christmas. The encryption part of EasyShare One’s Wi-Fi module wasn’t slated to ship until October originally; this portion was necessary for WEP and WPA as well as 802.1X, which was needed to use the service over T-Mobile HotSpot locations as part of a promotion. The EasyShare One can transfer photos over Wi-Fi, but it can also browser galleries stored on Kodak’s online photo-printing service, clunkily renamed from Ofoto to Kodak EasyShare Gallery - a name only a navel-gazing marketer could love.
