NikonNikon Coolpix S2 digital camera introduction : Nikon launches the ultimate all-weather compact digital camera today, the Nikon Coolpix S2, with a splash-proof aluminium casing for adverse weather conditions and a host of in-camera features. The Nikon S2 features the largest LCD screen in the compact market at an impressive 2.5 inches. In addition to the good looks, the ?brains’ of the Nikon Coolpix S2 ensure sharp, clear results and faithful colour thanks to 5.1 effective megapixels and a versatile 35-105mm 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor ED lens (35mm equivalent). The Nikon Coolpix S2 boasts a range of Nikon features that helps to improve image quality including Face-priority AF, D-Lighting and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix.

With the D-Lighting function, you can simply and automatically correct insufficient exposure by leaving properly-exposed areas alone while adding light and detail to darker areas of an image. The Coolpix S2 also features Blur Warning, it lets the user know if hand shake has impacted the image quality. On the subject of portrait shots, the Coolpix S2 features Nikon’s In-Camera Red-Eye Fix function, which detects red-eye caused by flash, and digitally corrects it in-camera.

Nikon Coolpix S2 - Right-angle optics system
The Nikon S2 features a "right-angle" optics system so the lens functions without protruding from the camera body, and the inclusion of a large, bright 2.5-inch LCD monitor means there’s no need for a viewfinder. Add to that an easy-to-use Graphic User Interface (GUI) that allows the user to select functions by either name or icon, and a handy HELP button which displays explanations in the user’s choice of 12 languages, and you have an all-round package that’s hard to beat.

Nikon S2 camera - Other features
Other features make the Nikon Coolpix S2 one of the easiest to use compact digital cameras, including high speed start-up of approximately 1 second, continuous shooting of 1.8 frames per second and movie mode capable of 15 frames per second. The Nikon S2 is energy efficient, too, capable of taking 190 shots with a fully charged battery and comes in an all-in-one package that includes a Cool-Station for battery recharging and image sharing. Although the Coolpix S2 is compatible with widely available SD memory cards, it also has 12MB of internal memory so users can go on shooting even when they are not carrying any additional media. The Nikon Coolpix S2 digital camera is scheduled for release in June 2005.
