 SMC Pentax DA 50mm-200mm F4-F5.6 ED lens for SLRs : Pentax Corporation is pleased to announce the marketing of the smc Pentax-DA 50mm-200mm F4-F5.6 ED . Developed for exclusive use with its digital SLR cameras, this compact, lightweight zoom lens offers a wide four-times coverage for both mid-range telephoto applications and serious long-range applications. When mounted on a Pentax digital SLR camera (Pentax *istD or Pentax *istDS ), this new lens offers a wide four-times zoom ratio and offers focal lengths equivalent ( in the 35mm format ) from 76.5mm to 306mm. This wide coverage is ideal for a variety of telephoto applications, including portraiture, sports and scenery.

 Pentax lens - Compact design
Thanks to newly developed optics and lens barrel, the lens measures only 78.5 millimeters long and weighs a mere 255 grams. This assures exceptional maneuverability and operability during shooting, and excellent portability during transport despite the four-times zoom ratio and outstanding optical performance. The lens incorporates an ED ( Extra-low Dispersion ) glass element in its optics to effectively compensate for various aberrations and assure more faithful image reproduction.

This new lens is exclusively designed for Pentax digital SLR cameras ( *istD or *istDS ). Its image circle is designed to correspond exactly to the dimensions of the camera's image sensor ( 23.5mm by 15.7mm ), while the optics have been designed to optimize digital image quality. Compared to 35mm-format counterparts with similar specifications, the lens is not only smaller and lighter, but it also offers greater cost performance and higher image quality.

The Quick-Shift Focus System, Pentax-original mechanism allows the photographer to switch instantly to the manual-focus mode with a simple twist of the focus ring after the subject is captured in focus in the AF mode. The Pentax DA 50mm-200mm F4-F5.6 ED lens offers a minimum focusing distance of just 1.1 meters ( 3.6 feet ) over its entire zoom range. The filter hood ( included ) features a window that facilitates the mounting and removal of a PL filter. The new Pentax DA 50mm-200mm incorporates a metallic lens mount for extra durability.
