CanonCanon sponsor of 2005 World Figure Skating : Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging and information technology solutions, has signed a new deal to become Principal Sponsor of the 2005 World Figure Skating. Championships, the annual competition that fuses the athleticism of winter sports with innovation in the discipline of dance. The sponsorship deal forms part of Canon Europe’s overall business strategy to develop its presence within the emerging markets of EMEA. It also underlines the company’s commitment to building brand awareness in the region, specifically in Russia, where the championships will be held this month.

As Principal Sponsor, Canon will have extensive branding at the Champion-ships including perimeter advertising boards around the 12,000 seat capacity rink at the Olympic complex in Luzhini, Moscow, on all promotional material, across the Zamboni ice machine and on photographer bibs. Canon’s business solutions equipment will be used at the official media centre and a service depot will be established onsite to assist photographers with repairs and mainte-nance and to provide a photographic equipment loan service.

Canon expands its business by sponsoring
Hospitality programmes will also be hosted at the Championships. Akio Ito, Vice President of Canon Europe and Head of Emerging Markets Business Unit (EMBU), said of the sponsorship: “Canon Europe is dedicated to expanding its business into the emerging markets in our territory. We have shaped all areas of our business, including our sponsorships, to support this strategy. Russia and its neighbouring countries are important regions for Canon and we are delighted to use this world-class sponsorship as a platform to build brand leadership awareness and to cement our existing relationships with dealers and distributors in these burgeoning territories.”

This new sponsorship will join the other sports properties in Canon’s strategic sponsorship programme for EMEA, which include UEFA Champions League, French Tennis Federation / Roland Garros French Open Championship.
