SanDiskSanDisk appoints Khandker Quader to Vice President : SanDisk announced the promotion of Khandker Quader, 46, to the newly created position of vice president of memory design. Quader, whose promotion is effective immediately, will report to Yoram Cedar, SanDisk's senior vice president of engineering and emerging markets. Quader, who has been with SanDisk since 1995, leads a multi-national engineering team that is responsible for the development of NAND flash memory. Flash memory is a key component used in removable storage cards and flash memory for high-growth consumer electronics markets that include digital cameras, MP3 players, USB flash drives, electronic games and mobile phones.
SanDisk appoints Khandker Quader to Vice PresidentSanDisk - Strategic moves
SanDisk's ability to spur the adoption of flash memory and grow the market for flash-based mobile electronics products is directly attributable to the advances made by its NAND flash engineering group, which has designed numerous flash memory products that have led to increased capacities and lower costs. SanDisk has been able to meet or strategically implement price declines with a low-cost structure that is directly attributable to the development and use of advanced process design techno- logies.

SanDisk - Development of 8-Gigabit Multi-Level Cell device
Under Quader's leadership, SanDisk's NAND flash engineering team is currently working on the development of a highly advanced 8-Gigabit (Gb) Multi-Level Cell (MLC) device on 90nm and 70nm process technologies, which will yield a 1-gigabyte (GB) memory chip on a single die. Quader was instrumental in SanDisk's transition from its original NOR-style flash memory to NAND flash memory for substantial cost savings. In addition, his team's memory designs are used in high-performance SanDisk Ultra(R) II and SanDisk Extreme(TM) III cards for digital photography. The cards are widely used by professional photographers and enthusiasts around the world due to their high performance and ability to withstand harsh environments.

Khandker Quader - Management skills and Experience
"Khandker's promotion to vice president is clearly in line with his proven management skills and deep level of experience in the flash memory industry," said Cedar. "SanDisk has been able to maintain its worldwide market share leadership through its successful program of product and engineering innovation."

Khandker Quader - Background
Prior to SanDisk, Quader worked for IBM Corporation to design and develop DRAM. He also worked for Intel Corporation to design and develop non-volatile memory, Static RAM, and differentiated memory products. Quader received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and in Physics from MIT in 1982, M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1984, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley in 1993 in the area of device physics and its interaction with circuits.
