KopinKopin Vision 2005 event about mobile video : More than 200 people attended Kopin's Vision 2005 event on Monday to deepen their understanding of the emerging mobile video revolution. The ground-breaking event at Kopin's Westborough, Mass., facility demonstrated to customers, partners, media, investors and analysts an array of mobile devices containing Kopin's CyberDisplay line of microdisplays, including video eyewear, cameras and infrared military equipment. Attendees also obtained in-depth knowledge about the market forces that are driving the mobile video revolution, including advances in Kopin's microdisplay technology. Mobile video will ultimately supplant much of what we know now as stationary video.
Kopin Vision 2005 event about mobile videoKopin - Changes the mobile video world
"What better way to celebrate Kopin's 20th anniversary and its 15 millionth microdisplay shipped," said Dr. John C. C. Fan, president and CEO of Kopin. "We are thrilled that our guests at Vision 2005 had the opportunity to learn about the emerging mobile video market and its vast potential through our distinguished speakers and exciting demos by our customers. We had the highest concen-tration of video eyewear in our exhibit, and people got a great vision what the future of mobile video would be."

Kopin - CyberDisplay microdisplays
Harvard Business School Professor Clayton M. Christensen, the author of the best-selling business books "The Innovator's Dilemma," "The Innovator's Solution" and "Seeing What's Next." detailed in his keynote how upstart companies with disruptive technology grab market share from established leaders by initially selling low-cost, low-margin products to customers with simpler needs. Then they move up the performance ladder. Christensen said Kopin's CyberDisplay microdisplays followed the examples of successful disruptive technology: they were first introduced for simple camcorder viewfinder applications, and now with improved performance, they are taking aim at the emerging mobile video market requiring superior image quality.

Kopin - Digital multimedia broadcasting services
New digital multimedia broadcasting services for handheld and mobile video devices with interactive and TV functionality will be the important drivers of mobile video and microdisplays, according to Chris Chinnock, founder and president of Insight Media, the only market research firm with an exclusive focus on microdisplay-based products. "Better ergonomics, higher resolution, power efficiency, affordable wireless access, innovative services, and lower cost are among the factors that could drive the use of personal displays for mobile video," said Chinnock. "A portable PlayStation with a $300 headset would be very interesting for a lot of teenagers. A $100 headset might be even more interesting. The image quality won't be as good, but you're going to sell a ton of them and create a wave of interest."

Kopin - Great opportunity
Fred Ishii, a former Sony Corp. senior vice president and current executive advisor, said, "Head-mounted displays have failed in the past because of immature technology and high price. Kopin, however, has a great opportunity to challenge in this area with their new technology."

Kopin - Will change the mobile video world
"The mobile video revolution is the inevitable result of technology's advances, as seen repeatedly in the last few decades," said Paul Travers, president of Icuiti Corp. of Rochester, N.Y. "Just as cell phones changed mobile communications, microdisplays will change the mobile video world. Icuiti is very optimistic about our video eyewear with Kopin's CyberDisplays inside."

Kopin - Nanotechnology
Built with nanotechnology, Kopin CyberDisplays are at the heart of a wide range of emerging mobile video devices. CyberDisplays are the world's smallest, highest density light-transmitting liquid crystal displays with low power consumption. They range from a tiny 0.16-inch-diagonal display to 0.97-inch-diagonal display with resolution higher than HDTV. Kopin is the largest microdisplay manufacturer in the United States. The Kopin CyberDisplay is the imaging device in nearly 40 percent of the world's camcorders and is the microdisplay standard for the U.S. military.
