FujiFilmFujifilm European Press Photographer 2005 : The Portuguese capital Lisbon played host to the prestigious 2005 Fujifilm European Press Photographer of the Year Awards on 17 April, with delegates arriving from across Europe to celebrate the very best in press and professional photography. Launched over 13 years ago, the awards have risen to become one of the most coveted photographic competitions throughout the continent, with no fewer than 16 countries competing for one of four highly valued titles. The Awards demand that each entrant to the final must first succeed in their own country’s fiercely contested national competition; submitting his/her work in one of the four categories of Architecture, Fashion, Sport or Europe.

All national winning photographers are then invited to submit a portfolio of three photographs (which must include the winning national entry), to be judged by an international panel of photo editors and specialists including: Walter Schels from Germany, Daniel Labours from Belgium, Dusan Vesely from Czech Republic, Jonas Staselis from Lithuania, Jan van der Schans from The Netherlands, Homem Cardoso from Portugal and Marian Pauer from Slovakia. Marks are awarded for pictorial impact, composition and technical quality.
