MotorolaMotorola first videophone call over satellite : Motorola and WorldGate today announced they conducted the first true-to-life videophone call over satellite broadband network connections, demonstrating that no distance is too great for the Motorola Ojo Personal Videophone to bridge. Motorola and WorldGate originated Ojo videophone calls from WorldGate's Philadelphia-area headquarters to a facility in Virginia Beach, ultimately beaming the calls to a commercially available VSAT satellite orbiting 22,500 miles above Earth and back-a round trip of 45,000 miles. Ojo performed flawlessly, connecting the parties, and enabling a true-to-life personal exchange with stunning picture quality and perfectly synchronized audio and video.

"This is another in a series of historic firsts for the Motorola Ojo Personal Videophone," says Hal Krisbergh, Chairman and CEO of WorldGate Communications. "The Ojo was used for the first international videophone call, and now we have demonstrated that Ojo Personal Videophones perform equally well over satellite and broadband cable connections. This is another benchmark in Ojo's eventual worldwide adoption and dominance of video telephony."

Motorola and WorldGate - Agreement
Last year, Motorola and WorldGate announced a multi-year agreement for the worldwide development and distribution of Ojo Personal Videophones, where Motorola agreed to distribute Ojo worldwide through broadband service providers, retailers, and distributors of telecommunica-tions products, as part of its Connected Home portfolio of consumer broadband solutions.

Motorola Ojo videophone - Significant technical achievement
"This marks a significant technical achievement in video telecommunications," says David Grubb, Vice President, Business Development, Consumer Entertainment Solutions, Motorola. "We've demonstrated that people around the world, even in the most remote regions, can share real-life experiences as they happen with Motorola Ojo Personal Videophones."

Motorola Ojo videophone - Telephony of the future
The Motorola Ojo Personal Videophone brings video telephony out of the future and into the hands of today's consumers. Coupled with the power of an always-on broadband Internet connection, the Motorola Ojo seamlessly bridges physical distances to connect family, friends, and business associates with real-time, face-to-face communication; letting them see, hear, and share personal experiences as they happen.
