CanonCanon DR-5010C and DR-2580C scanner introduction : Canon U.S.A., Inc. unveiled the next generation of its award-winning DR scanner line with the introduction of the new DR-5010C and DR-2580C scanner models, providing compactly designed, enhanced color workflow solutions with superior speed, high image quality and proven reliability. Both the Canon DR-5010C and Canon DR-2580C engines are engineered to optimize data-capture, document management and archival workflows. The Canon DR-2580C scanner strengthens Canon's position in the workgroup market segment, while the Canon DR-5010C scanner perfectly addresses a variety of production scanning needs for a broad range of vertical business applications.

At 25 pages-per-minute, the Canon DR-2580C color document scanner specifically targets the U.S. workgroup market, which is expected to grow between 30-40 percent over the next three years, the highest rate among document management scanner seg- ments. The Canon DR-5010C scanner, which targets production-volume en- vironments, scans in both color and black-and-white at a constant rate of 50 ppm, as well as 100 images-per-minute (ipm) in duplex scanning at the industry standard of 200dpi resolution.

"Since entering the Departmental segment of the document scanner market in 1996 with the Canon DR-3020, Canon has greatly expanded its product line to address all applications and environments, ranging from the workgroup to production environments," added Machida. "With the introduction of the new Canon DR-5010C and Canon DR-2580C scanners, we expect to significantly strengthen Canon's position in the low- and mid-volume environments, and more aggressively challenge our competitors across all categories."

Both the Canon DR-5010C and Canon DR-2580C scanners inherit the latest features and proven reliability of Canon's popular DR line of products, while additionally incorporating a variety of new capabilities, including:

Canon DR-5010C scanner - New functionalities
Canon has developed the Canon DR-5010C scanner to fulfil a wide variety of business functionality requirements. Compact in size, the new DR-5010C measures at only 7.5"(H) x15.6"(W) x13"(D) and is small enough to fit in limited workspaces. Proof that size can be deceiving, the DR-5010C is a fast and flexible machine, achieving speeds up to 120 ipm in landscape mode and capable of scanning documents up to 11"x17". Revolutionary new functionalities built into the Canon DR-5010C include:
- Three-Line Sensor technology for high-speed/quality color scanning
- Hi-Speed Text Enhancement scanning
- Custom Color Dropout/Enhancement

Canon DR-5010C scanner - Software bundle
The new Canon DR-5010C comes bundled with an enhanced version of CapturePerfect, Canon's out-of-box office-scanning tool to better support software functionality. CapturePerfect maximizes document scanning, viewing, saving, distributing and printing capabilities, and is an ISIS-compliant application, compatible with all the features and functionalities offered by the Canon DR-5010C. CapturePerfect enables a number of image file editing and viewing functions, searchable and encrypted PDF file format support, as well as convenient ways to scan documents for different business imaging needs such as: scan page; scan batch-to-file, printer- or mail-; scan-to-presentation and scan job.

Canon DR-2580C scanner - Straight path feeding
Extremely compact, to the point of being portable, the Canon DR-2580C scanner supports documents up to 11"x14". The Canon DR-2580C is positioned for the Workgroup segment, joining Canon's award-winning Canon DR-2080C. Featuring a Straight Path feeding system, the new Canon DR-2580C is capable of scanning a wide range of the documents, including thick documents, plastic cards, and driver's license. For additional document handling flexibility, Canon has designed an optional flatbed, available as an option for scanning bound documents as well as thicker or thinner documents. The Canon DR-2580C also features three user-definable, one-touch Scan-To Buttons to provide easy operation. Similar to the DR-5010C, Canon U.S.A. has bundled the Canon DR-2580C with the latest versions of CapturePerfect and Adobe Acrobat software.

Starting at a U.S. suggested retail price of $1,095 for the DR-2580C, and $5,495 for the DR-5010C, the new Canon scanners will begin shipping in the second quarter 2005. The Canon DR-2580C and DR-5010C will be available through authorized Canon dealers, select distributors, and Canon resellers.
