NikonNikon Coolpix 7900 digital camera preview : The Nikon Coolpix 7900 is the big brother from the also introduced Nikon Coolpix 5900 digital camera. The following article is not yet a Nikon Coolpix 7900 digital camera review but a preview. The new Nikon 7900 features 7.1 effective Megapixels and has a 3x optical zoom lens on board. Furthermore, this compact Coolpix digital camera is equipped with many handy innovative settings to meet the user's requirements and has a compact metal housing. The Nikon Coolpix 7900 is an advanced Coolpix digital camera with high image quality, superb design and user-friendliness. The 7.1 Megapixel resolution ensures a high-quality picture that can be printed problem-free in A4 and A3 format.
Nikon Coolpix 7900 digital camera previewThe 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens is a so-called ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens and features a focal length equivalent to 38-114 of a 35mm camera. To increase photo joy and ease Nikon took a step forward and equipped the Nikon 7900 with a 2-inch sized LCD monitor. It clearly offers more pleasure reviewing the photos and also helps framing an image, and makes sharing much more fun. The high quality monitor has a beautiful light and clear rendition.

The housing of the Nikon 7900 consists of metal and is available in Silver and in Black. The camera lies comfortably in the hand and is extremely compact. Beside the design, Nikon also concentrated on low energy consumption. This results in the possibility of capturing many images per battery. The camera also supports non-rechargeable CP1 Lithium batteries.

A newly developed menu or better: the improved Graphic User Interface (GUI) makes the Nikon Coolpix 7900 a very user-friendly digital camera. The menu is well organized and allows the user to select a function through text or via an icon. In total there are 11 different languages available including Dutch and of course English. The Help-function explains every menu function briefly.

The Nikon Coolpix digital cameras are well-known for their comprehensive preset scenes settings. And the Nikon Coolpix 7900 is not an exception. These preset scenes can be selected rapidly and ensure the best camera setting. The camera has four preset settings with Composition assistance and a newly added preset scene: Underwater recording mode which brings the total number of settings to 16. In the Underwater mode the beautiful colours from the underwater world are captured vividly and true-to-life. A mode like this wouldn't be of any use if you didn't have an underwater housing with it. Therefore Nikon provides you with an optional Nikon WP-CP4 underwater housing to use the Nikon 7900 during snorkelling of deep sea diving even to a depth of 40meter. The other preset scenes are the well-known ones like Landscape, Sunset, Action etc. Both cameras are very suitable for action photography. Besides capturing still images the Nikon 7900 is also capable of recording high quality movies at a speed of 30fps and a VGA quality resolution.

For fast performance the Nikon Coolpix 7900 offers continuous shooting with approximately 1.7 images per image. The Nikon Coolpix 7900 also offers high precision Multi-AF with a choice of 99 manually selectable focus fields, 5 choices for automatic selection of focus field and the benefit of the new Face priority AF function, which is easy to select when putting the camera in Portrait mode. Face priority AF ensures the user of a correct focus when taking portraits. The camera automatically detects a human face in the image and will focus on it automatically.

One of the most impressive features on both cameras is Nikon's innovative D-Lighting function. This function can be activated for example in play back mode, to automatically improve a photo when too much backlighting or insufficient flash light is the case, in order to get a correct exposure as an end result. We also find the red-eye reduction on the Nikon 5900, one more software solution, which automatically detects red eyes and corrects them. Another user-friendly feature is the failure warning when an unclear picture is taken. It warns the user when camera jitter caused a failure image so the user can take a correct one before leaving the shooting location. Furthermore the renown and typical Nikon function, the BSS, is very helpful in similar situations. This function selects the best and clearest image from a series of images and stores it.

Nikon provides this new Coolpix line with the latest version of Nikon's PictureProject software. This software enables the user faster and easier editing of the images as well as arrange and share them effortlessly. PictureProject is standard delivered with the Nikon Coolpix 7900.
