NikonNikon Coolpix 5900 digital camera preview : Besides entry-level Coolpix digital cameras like the Nikon Coolpix 4600 and 5600 models, Nikon also launched the Nikon Coolpix 5900. This model belongs to the new generation advanced Coolpix compact digital cameras. Keywords are: excellent quality with the capability of capturing superior images, superb design and comprehensive and advanced settings, with equal user friendliness. The Nikon Coolpix 5900 is equipped with a 5.1 effective Megapixel image sensor and features a 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens with a focal length equivalent to a 38-11mm lens on a 35mm camera. The high resolution guarantees photo-realistic prints in A4 and A3 format.
Nikon Coolpix 5900 digital camera previewThe back of the Nikon 5900 is dominated by a large 2 inch TFT monitor. The high quality monitor offers a beautiful light and clear rendition. A larger monitor makes the menu visibly well-organized, framing is easier and images can be shared more easily with family and friends. The newly developed GUI (Graphic User Interface) makes navigating a joy; the user can select a setting through a text or an icon. The Nikon Coolpix 5900 is also equipped with the handy 'Help' button, the one we find on all the Coolpix cameras from the new series, which offers you a brief explanation from every function available in the menu. By the way, the Dutch user can enjoy the fact of the availability of a Dutch menu. Of course English is found as default setting.

The Nikon 5900 belongs to a higher class of cameras than the entry-level Coolpix digital camera. The camera delivers faster performance and offers a speed of 2fps with a resolution of 5 Megapixel. The Nikon Coolpix 5900 also offers high precision Multi-AF with a choice of 99 manually selectable focus fields, 5 choices for automatic selection of focus field and the benefit of the new Face priority AF function, which is easy to select when putting the camera in Portrait mode. Face priority AF ensures the user of a correct focus when taking portraits. The camera automatically detects a human face in the image and will focus on it automatically. Another feature that has to do with intelligent software is the D-Lighting function. This function can be activated for example in play back mode, to automatically improve a photo when too much backlighting or insufficient flash light is the case, in order to get a correct exposure as an end result. We also find the advanced red-eye reduction on the Nikon 5900, one more software solution, which automatically detects red eyes and corrects tem. Furthermore the renown and typical Nikon function, the BSS, helpful in similar situations. This function selects the best and clearest image from a series of images and stores it.

The Nikon Coolpix 5900's housing consists of metal and is finished in silver. The camera lies comfortably in the hand and has a compact size. Beside the design, Nikon also concentrated on low energy consumption. This results in the possibility of capturing many images per battery. The camera also supports non-rechargeable CP1 Lithium batteries.

The Nikon Coolpix digital cameras are well-known for their comprehensive preset scenes settings. And so is the Nikon Coolpix 5900. These preset scenes can be selected rapidly and ensure the best camera setting. An newly added preset scene is Underwater recording mode. In this mode the beautiful colours from the underwater world are captured vividly and true-to-life. A mode like this wouldn't be of any use if you didn't have an underwater housing with it. Therefore Nikon provides you with an optional Nikon WP-CP3 underwater housing to use the Nikon 5600 during snorkelling of deep sea diving even to a depth of 40meter. The other preset scenes are the well-known ones like Landscape, Sunset, Action etc. Four scenes even feature a useful composition assistance which enables every photographer to take perfect compositions. Beside that we have to mention that the Nikon 5900 is also capable of recording high quality movies at a speed of 30fps and a VGA quality resolution (640x480 pixels).

The Nikon Coolpix 5900 comes with the latest version of Nikon's unique PictureProject software. This software enable the user faster and easier editing of the images as well as arrange and share them effortlessly.

At this moment no production camera is available but as soon as it is, we will plan a Nikon Coolpix 5900 digital camera review.
