SonySony Micro Vault introduction at CES 2005 : Exhibiting its most extensive Micro Vault product line-up to date here at CES, Sony is introducing an array of products that include a 5GB Micro Vault PRO USB-enabled hard drive, and a redesigned Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access. "We have seen the use of USB storage devices grow exponentially every year since we first introduced the Micro Vault in 2002," said Michael Lucas, director of consumer and convergent media for Sony Electronics' Media and Applications Solutions Division. "As pioneers in this category, we are adding several new products to the line-up as well as product enhancements that will offer tailored solutions for the wide breadth of consumers who are using these devices."

Just six months after introducing the Sony Micro Vault PRO ultra-portable USB enabled 2GB hard drive, Sony is now offering a new option with a 5GB storage capacity. Measuring only 2 x 2.75" and 0.5" thick, the product features a swivel USB connector that swings out to plug into a PC's USB port and then folds back to be "hidden" inside the device. The Sony Micro Vault PRO products offer pre-loaded Auto Sync software that automatically synchronizes files and data changes in designated folders to both the PC and the Micro Vault.

Sony Micro Vault - PRO versions
"It's becoming less and less common to work in one fixed location, and the Sony Micro Vault PRO makes it possible to easily pick up right where you left off at another computer, even when working with media-rich PowerPoint, PDF or digital photo or video files," Lucas said. Both the Sony Micro Vault PRO 2GB and 5GB products feature a high-speed USB 2.0 digital interface that quickly transfers data without the need for cables or driver software. The Sony Micro Vault PRO 5GB USB storage device will feature a new slate blue colour and is scheduled to be available in March at a suggested retail price of $249.99.

Sony Micro Vault - Fingerprint access doubles memory capacity
Leveraging the convenience and security of fingerprint identification technology, Sony's Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access stores and automatically enters users' web site IDs and passwords by registering unique users' fingerprints through a sensor. At CES, Sony is debuting a redesigned product with double (256 MB) the flash memory capacity, a slimmer design and a convenient "slide-up" cap to expose or cover the fingerprint sensor.

Sony Micro Vault - High-speed transfer and high capacity storage
As in the original model, this device transfers data via a high-speed USB 2.0 digital interface. It offers a screen saver lock that protects against unauthorized computer access and provides file and folder encryption capabilities. The newly designed 256MB Sony Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access is scheduled to be available in April for a suggested retail price of $89.99. Memory Capacity is Increased Across All Flash Memory Micro Vault Products Sony is increasing the memory capacity across the entire Sony Micro Vault product line with the addition of a Sony 1GB Micro Vault CLASSIC, a 512 MB and 1 GB Micro Vault ULTRA MINI. The new 1 GB Micro Vault CLASSIC will be available in February, and the ULTRA MINI products will be available this spring.
