Sony announces world's smallest miniDV camcorder

SonySony presents the world's smallest and lightest miniDV camcorder (as of November 2004) and ultra-modern designed DVD Handycam. The world's smallest and lightest MiniDV format camcorder the DCR-PC55E and DCR-PC53E will be launched in February 2005. The modern designed engineering DVD Handycam, DCR-DVD7 will be launched in May 2005. Thanks to mobile-friendly size and features the camcorders are always ready for shooting and playing back, whatever the situation. Wherever you go, whenever you shoot, the world's smallest and lightest Handycam is always on your side. The tiny DCR-PC55E and its sibling DCR-PC53E are scarcely larger than the mini DV cassettes they use.

DCR-DVD7E
The new design of the DVD Handycam DCR-DVD7E offers a brand new shooting style for camcorders. All the convenience of DVD recording has been combined with modern styling in the futuristic DCR-DVD7E, supporting DVD-R/-RW/+RW compatible formats for shooting and playing back.

Main characteristics of the DCR-PC55E and PC53E

Compact Size
New breakthroughs in miniaturisation technology mean you’re able to take the DCR-PC55E and its sibling the DCR-PC53E with you anywhere, kept in your bag or jacket just like your mobile phone or slim line digital camera. These tiny Handycam are intended for daily use, wherever you are, whenever you want. The camcorders are always ready for shooting - the provision of an automatic lens cover means you’ll never miss the action.

Handycam Station and Slide Show plus
Both models enable you to position your camcorder on the supplied Handycam Station, so that everyone can see the LCD display. This means powered cradle ensures that your camcorder is always ready to shoot with recharging and to playing back with being connected with PC or TV. Even more, playing back with Slide show plus function use as a photo frame to keep playing back your favorite pictures.

Easy and convenient
The DCR-PC55E and PC53E are fully equipped with the latest technologies. A 3.0-inch Hybrid LCD monitor is ideal for viewing video or a slideshow of still images even under high contrast situations. The 3.0-inch LCD display also has a Touch Screen, which can be used in conjunction with Sony's Active Menu, a logically structured graphical user interface for camcorder controls. With Memory Stick DUO you can also easily shoot and store digital still images. Sony’s unique Easy Handycam menu gives one-button access to basic camera operation and recording settings.

Main characteristics of the DCR-DVD7E

Modern Design
The DCR-DVD7E is modern design of Camcorders with many features. A new way of holding the DCR-DVD7E and the record and playback controls have been redesigned to suit this style of operation. In a departure from normal styling, it features a 2.5-inch Hybrid LCD monitor on the back face of its round body. This serves as the primary monitoring, framing and playback display for the camcorder.
DVD-R / -RW / +RW Recording compatibility

The DCR-DVD7E is capable of recording directly to DVD discs. Formats supported by the new Sony DVD Handycam are DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW for direct recording and DVD-RW and DVD+RW for rewriting. The 8cm DVD Discs used by the Handycam range can be played back on most consumer DVD players. To view images recorded on DVD+RW on DVD player devices, without proceeding with the finalization session, images need to be recorded for more than 8 minutes with SP recording mode. Sony does not guarantee the playback of such recordings for all DVD+RW compatible devices.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens
Though small, both camcorders feature a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, with a 10X Optical Zoom capability. This ensures that your footage will be of pin-sharp quality, even when you are zooming in from a significant distance, while the sizable lens guarantees a bright picture.
