SonySony Electronics announced today the official launch of a dedicated Spanish-language web site. (www.sony.com/news/espanol) to provide the latest news and information about the company, its products and technologies to U.S.-based Hispanic media. Sony is the first major consumer electronics company to offer a Spanish-language site for press in the U.S. The new site is designed as a resource to help Sony and the news media better inform the Hispanic population, the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S. With this new site, Hispanic media in the U.S. media will no longer have to translate Sony press information, enabling them to communicate more effectively and efficiently with their audience.
The comprehensive new portal, which will mirror Sony Electronics' current information site (www.sony.com/news), represents Sony's commitment to Spanish-speaking print, broadcast and online media outlets.

"This is an important first step toward increasing our involvement and support of the fastest growing community in the U.S., said Rick Clancy, Sony's senior vice president of corporate communications, "As a global company we need to communicate effectively with many diverse audiences. We are pleased to be the first company in our industry to take this step."

"Consumer electronics products enhance consumers' lifestyles and work styles," said Consumer Electronics Association President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "These benefits cross ethnic and cultural boundaries. To that end, we are excited to see one of our industry's key manufacturers reaching out to Hispanics by launching this dedicated website for the Hispanic media."

The new web site will provide company information, virtual press kits for key trade shows and other events, news releases and high resolution digital images covering Sony's broad line of electronics product offerings, from the latest Walkman products and VAIO computers to new WEGA televisions, Cybershot digital cameras and Handycam camcorders - all in Spanish.
