LetsGoDigitalAfter an intensive week at the Photokina show we can look back on a very successful and interesting Photokina. Some things have changed compared to the last Photokina in 2002. It seems that the show wasn't used so much for introducing real first products. In the build-up to the Photokina, some 6 weeks before, the first "Photokina" introductions were already made by brands like Canon and Fujifilm, followed by the majority of the other manufacturers. It doesn't mean that the content of the show has become less interesting, on the contrary. The interest in the digital camera and everything concerning digital imaging is enormous. It occurred frequently that some sections of a booth could not be reached by the visitors.
So there was no other solution than to try it on a later point of time. Some of the highlights of the show were; the introduction of the Konica Minolta first real digital SLR camera, the Dynax7D. Considering the overwhelming attention this product received from the public, we may expect that the Dynax7D had a successful introduction. The enhanced read and write speed of SanDisk's Flash cards to 20 megabytes/sec. Nikon proudly presenting their D2X at the Photokina. A DSLR with an effective resolution of 12.4 Megapixel and a frame rate of 5 images per second. Canon's answer to this was the introduction of Canon's 2nd generation Full Frame digital SLR. A digital SLR with a resolution of an impressive 16.7 Megapixels!

During Photokina also many concepts were presented, at which the use of the monitor seemed to be the joint feature. Various concepts were shown by Olympus and Fujifilm among others, at which the emphasis will lie on managing, reviewing and sharing of digital images. These concepts are already rather well worked out and we expect to be able to publish the anouncements very soon.

It has been a pleasure for LetsGoDigital to visit the Photokina. The next Photokina will take place in 2006, on the new location where the exposition building is taking shape. Slowly but surely we are going to prepare for the next show, the CES in Las Vegas, beginning of January 2005. We hope you have read our live-coverage with pleasure, and we hope you have been able to get a good impression of part of the introductions on the field of digital imaging. Before finishing we would like to thank Toni Fernandez, editor of the LetsGoDigital Spanish edition, Raphaël Lessinger, editor of the LetsGoDigital French edition, José Snijders, Koert Buijze and all DIWA members from the DIWA Awards organisation for their incredible effort and dedication in the build-up to and during the Photokina itself. Also because of these people the Photokina became the perfect show for us.
