TIPASony has struck gold with the Cyber-shot T1, newly chosen as Europe's Best Digital Consumer Compact Camera in the prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Awards. In judging the recent awards, the editors of the association's 30 member magazines agreed that the slim and stylish T1 "has some hugely impressive features which afford the photographer unprecedented levels of control". The award, from the top photographic and imaging titles in Europe, is a winning endorsement for the breakthrough design and optimised engineering behind this superb Cyber-shot camera. " We are of course delighted with the TIPA jury's decision in awarding Sony this TIPA prize," said Diederik Nederlof, General Manager of Sony Digital Imaging Europe.
TIPA awards the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1 camera "Being honoured by such a broad and discerning panel of experts is a tremendous compliment that all of us at Sony are very proud of".

The Cyber-shot T1 won the jury over with the fact that its ultra-slim proportions, made possible by innovative re-engineering of components by Sony, didn't hinder the high levels of control available to the camera user. Another winner was the large and bright 2.5-inch LCD screen, a Hybrid LCD that the panel found was ideal for assisting with composition and image review. The display, which covers two thirds of the camera's back surface area, uses special imaging technology to let you see your subject as clearly in bright, outdoor conditions as in indoor or lower light environments. Still more praise was heaped upon the exclusive new Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3 x optical zoom. The judges were highly impressed to find that although providing a powerful zoom capability, the lens sits flush within the stainless steel shell and has no external moving parts. Sony was also very pleased to be awarded a further prize by TIPA, this time for the Sony DSR-PD170 which was voted Europe's Best Professional Camcorder. This camcorder, which builds on the excellent reputation established by the PD150, was said by the judges to "bring professional specifications and broadcast quality images and sound for the price of a good consumer camcorder." Both awards will be presented at the TIPA Awards Ceremony in Cologne during the Photokina Fair in September.
