Fujifilm FinePix S5000 Review conclusion

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 versatile digital camera
The FinePix S5000 of Fujifilm resembles a diesel. When it really gets going, the best features come forward. The large optical range of this camera, the relative bright telephoto lens and the numerous settings make it a versatile camera. The body of the S5000 reminds you of the APS/35mm SRL camera, but then more compact. The design contributes to a very comfortable feeling when holding the camera, it fits like a glove!

Fujifilm S5000 - Super CCD technology
The FinePix S5000 is equipped with the latest technique on image sensors, the Super CCD of Fujifilm. This technique, the fourth generation already, offers a positive contribution to the overall image quality. The standard resolution is 3.1 Megapixels, which alone would be sufficient to have a photo realistic print but the higher resolution, enabled by the Super CCD HR technique gives just that little bit of extra! The camera cant be compared with a 6MP model, the resolution lies in between 3 and 6 Megapixels.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 - Well-organised menu
The easy way of operating, not having to search for buttons, in short, the ergonomics of the camera are fine. The menu is well-organised and very direct. The handy F-button offers access to useful settings.

Fujifilm S5000 with built-in pop-up flash
The FinePix S5000 is a pleasant digital camera to use in practice. There are some small things that I consider a pity for not being used on this model. I would have rather seen a 1.8-inch LCD monitor on the back of the camera in stead of the 1.5-inch. The start-up time is slower than average, but like I started this conclusion, the FinePix S5000 is like a diesel. The true speed is found in the continuous shooting. The camera really is a race monster! Four images per second in a resolution of 6 Megapixels and a maximum of five images is a performance that is not seen daily on a digital camera in this class. The image process works at a fast speed so the FinePix S5000 makes up for its somewhat slow start-up time. The built-in pop-up flash enables good balanced flash images, especially the macro images are exposed beautifully by the built-in flash. Still I keep thinking of an automatic pop-up flash. It would be the finishing touch.

Fujifilm FinePix S5000 - Large optical range
Did we like the camera in practice? Certainly! The compact body, the way if fits in your hand, the large optical range, very economical and as a result the beautiful photo realistic image is a combination that certainly works for us! So if you are looking for an all-rounder you should have a closer look at the Fujiflm S5000 at your local photo shop.

Fujifilm digital cameras

The Fujifilm FinePix S5000 is standard delivered with a 16MB memory card. It's a nice gesture, but someone who wants to make serious use of the camera will soon switch over to 128MB capacity. To get an idea of the right storage capacity for this FinePix S5000, the following table might help:

Considering a storage capacity of 64MB:
Resolution 6M (2832x2128): 43 images – appr. 1.5MB
Resolution 3M (2048x1536): 81 images – appr. 790KB
Resolution 2M (1600x1200): 101 images – appr. 630KB
Resolution 1M (1280x960) : 137 images – appr. 470KB
Resolution 320x240 30fps video – appr. 109 seconds.

When a CCD-RAW format is stored, the data will be as large as appr. 7MB. These data can be read using the delivered FinePix viewer software. The RAW file converter LE converts raw data into TIFF data.
