Canon Digital IXUS 60 digital camera
The design of the Canon Digital IXUS 60 looks attractive and will undoubtedly gain its fair share of admiration. The Canon IXUS line is famed for its design, and with its smooth and round shapes, Canon hold a truly thriving concept. Besides the camera's design, Canon have clearly put considerable effort into the way the camera lies in your hand, which is still pleasant and secure. The blend of design and user-friendliness that the Canon IXUS 60 offers is an excellent combination.
Canon IXUS 60 - Automatic & Manual settings
The Canon IXUS 60 is pleasant to operate. Despite the innovative technique, the camera keeps its low entry level, which ensures that virtually everyone is able to work with it right away. The Canon Digital IXUS 60 carries out practically all actions automatically, or offers pre-programmed scenes that enable the user to unleash all his creativity. Still, the user is occasionally given the option to influence the exposure manually; by setting the light metering, ISO value, exposure compensation, etc, according to his own liking. It has to be said, however, that the results produced by the automatic settings leave little to be desired. This is a camera of which the concept is simply well considered and cleverly thought out.
Canon IXUS 60 - Colour reproduction , DIGIC II processor and ISO value
The Canon Digital IXUS 60 has a good colour reproduction with considerably saturated colours. The white balance keeps the colour cast reasonably under control and requires only occasional manual corrections. The DIGIC II processor ensures that the Canon Digital IXUS 60 camera has a considerable image processing speed. The camera is able to fill a (fast) memory card with a speed of 2 fps and features short start-up times and intervals of release. The high ISO value of 800 ISO is a welcome addition, but does come with a higher amount of noise than expected. The lens performs excellently and does not really suffer from aberration. There is, however, a slight blur present in wide-angle, but this is immediately corrected upon zooming in lightly.
Canon Digital IXUS 60 - LCD display & Battery
The camera is equipped with an optical viewfinder, even though, in my opinion, it shouldn't have been there at all. The pleasure of a large LCD monitor greatly outweighs that of a viewfinder, especially when it is (too) small and lacks in image coverage. The LCD monitor of 2.5 inch is pleasant to use and has a high resolution. The images are properly displayed, and the monitor can also be used outdoors, which is only hindered by working in bright sunlight. The battery capacity is rather limited. With a mere 140 images, users who like to capture a large amount of images will without question have to resort to a second battery. Switching off the LCD monitor does help, but relying on the small optical viewfinder is somewhat disappointing. There is a large difference between the energy consumption with and without the use of the monitor.
Canon Digital IXUS 60 - Good quality camera
The Canon IXUS line is very well thought out, and the years of success that have preceded this model will undoubtedly be continued by the Canon IXUS 60. One wonders just how long Canon will manage to keep this up, but at this time the IXUS is still proving extremely profitable for Canon. The camera meets all expectations. The Canon Digital IXUS 60 is of a compact size, has been neatly and attractively finished and has an excellent image quality. The possibilities and options offered are extensive, and might prove for some users to be the start of a more active interest in the creative side of the world of digital photography. The Canon IXUS 60 is a trendy digital camera, but also one that keeps a keen eye on quality.

SanDisk Ultra II Plus SD memory card
Besides the differences in storage capacity and speed, there is another remarkable exception to bring to attention. The SanDisk Ultra II Plus SD memory card has a unique feature, which I have already been using frequently in practice. Apart from speed and large storage capacity, the Secure Digital card comes with a USB interface. By taking the card out of the Canon Digital IXUS 60 digital camera and "breaking" it in half, a USB interface is freed, and the card can be inserted directly into a free USB port. Doing this allows you to use the card as a universal medium with a large exchangeability. The Canon IXUS 60 certainly benefits from a faster memory card, which helps it to guarantee the high quality and series of images. I would therefore definitely recommend investing in such a fast version of a Secure Digital memory card!
