The Panasonic FZ-5 is my 6th digital camera and my 2nd long zoom. I am very pleased with the Lumix DMC FZ5. Compared to every other digital camera I've had it is MUCH faster to focus and take the photo. Startup is also faster. The image stabilisation is absolutely awesome, not just for when you use the long zoom, but also for low light ortraits. The need to use flash is greatly reduced with the Mega OIS system. The Lumix FZ-5 focuses very well in low light, the only downside is it can be hard to see the subject in the LCD. (Compared to my Kodak DX6490 it is much harder) The results make it all worthwhile though as you get fantastic photo's in almost any light.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5 is my first-ever digital camera, having resisted trying the new technology for years. The big attraction to take the plunge was having the versatility of a powerful zoom in such a small format - bad memories of needing another shoulder to support and indeed carry the SLR's 400mm lens! Results outside, in the dark, without a flash (eg Xmas illuminations) were awesome - thanks largely to the image stabilisation system. Zoomed images taken at pop concerts really impressed me. I have successfully blown images up to A4 with no loss of quality. Having the option of the viewfinder is good for sunny days. I suspect this model will be hard to beat (except by the new FZ7!) so I can see myself using it around the world for years to come.

I've had the Panasonic DMC FZ-5 for over six months and am very pleased with it. We just returned from about a month in Europe where I took 1000+ pictures with it. The super-zoom is great for landscapes and for the interiors of cathedrals, and the anti-shake really works well. Color is very good in the pictures, even the rainy and cloudy days in Ireland. This is a somewhat large camera, but not as large as other super-zoom cameras I looked at. The 5 megapixels are more than sufficient for 4x6's, 5x7's and the occasional 8x10 - so I'd spend extra on the zoom, not the megs. Highly recommended!

I've had a chance to use my Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5 for three months now and I couldn't be more pleased. I am also extremely glad that my wife insisted that I buy a zoom camera. I chose the Lumix FZ5 because it was a favorite of Consumer Reports. Most everything I needed came with the camera, including a good strong battery, and all the required cables. You will need to buy an SD card (256mb will take 100 sharp pictures). Don't buy software until you have checked out the software that comes with the camera.
