Noisy to a certain extend. AF... needs a lot of patience when shooting really close-ups (alright, I never got that minimum-3cm shot). Personally, rarely use those 12 preset scenes. Nevertheless, the Nikon Coolpix 8700 is a decent prosumer camera indeed.

While the Coolpix 8700 camera has many features, perhaps Nikon has gone overboard. I really was after an affordable digital with good optics and decent resolution. After using the Nikon 8700 for over a year, I found I was often lost trying to get to certain settings and would have to consult the manual again. The manual is now dog eared and falling apart. One particular
reoccurring problem I found was I constantly hit the little button designed
for a self timer shutter because that same button is used for manual
focusing. Another problem I found was the memory card slot door now does not
stay shut because the card release button will not stay depressed. Aside for
these comments, I do think the Nikon Coolpix 8700 is a fine camera that produces professional quality results.
