Casio EXILIM EX-Z850 | Digital Camera Review | Conclusion
Casio Exilim EX-Z850 compact digital camera
With the introduction of the Exilim Z850 camera, Casio clearly assert their ability to equip a compact camera with a simply astounding amount of functionality, whilst ensuring it remains particularly accessible. Until recently, one could say the high resolution of 8 Megapixels formed a certain kind of boundary. We saw numerous manufacturers admit, perhaps even in spite of themselves, that this really was the limit. The introduction of the first 10 Megapixel Casio EX Z1000 camera, made it perfectly apparent there is at least one manufacturer that begs to differ. If truth be told, the 8 Megapixels that the Casio Z850 offers, happens to be more than sufficient; after all, the 5 and 6 Megapixel cameras already offered poster format quality.

Casio Exilim Z850 - Excellent high resolution images
The image quality of 8 Megapixels is excellent indeed, and as long as the high ISO values of 800 and 1600 ISO aren't activated, the user is able to produce superb prints of the high resolution images. The amount of Megapixels offers the photographer plenty of options to edit the image, both in-camera and via the PC or notebook afterwards. Upon first glance, the sheer quantity of functions and options may seem overwhelming; but it should be said that Casio manage to introduce these in a very clear and comprehensible way, whilst offering additional information about the function in the form of texts or pictograms. The countless pre-programmed scenes greatly diminish the risk of finding yourself thwarted by a certain light situation; Casio truly have thought about everything!

Casio EX Z850 - Automatic white balance
The optical zoom lens of the Casio Exilim EX Z850 performs well, and only shows the standard distortion that I frequently encounter with the 3x optical zoom lenses. The sharpness of the images easily suffices, and the same can be said for the colour rendition, which is particularly true to nature. Personally, I am quite pleased with the automatic white balance, which functions exceptionally well, and practically did not let me down. Those who wish to adjust the JPEG images created by the Casio, has the option to do so through the camera, which proves effortless. The images are edited inside the camera, and a copy of the end result will be stored. Do keep in mind, however, that this will require slightly more storage capacity.

Casio Z850 - Optical image stabiliser
Overall, the Casio Exilim EX Z850 is a camera that is virtually flawless. In my opinion, the only thing left to wish for is an optical image stabiliser, whilst quickly erasing all thought of increased ISO values from one's mind. It should be said that the Casio Z850 has so much on board, it could easily be integrated into an advanced hybrid digital camera, but Casio recently pointed out that, for now at least, they intend to stick to the compact Exilim digital cameras. A pity, especially as things show so much potential.

Casio Exilim EX Z850 - Outstanding image quality
Casio are putting in serious work to achieve a larger market share. Now, we all know this can prove tricky if one's product assortment does not meet the consumer demand - but for Casio, there are no such issues. Cameras like the Casio Exilim EX Z850 more than deserve market share, simply because they are worth it. The image quality is outstanding, and the speed with which the images are processed, as well as the speed of the camera actions, really is striking. In fact, the entire combination can easily face the competition of other camera manufacturers. The Casio Exilim Z850 certainly leaves a dazzling impression. This camera, a true front runner, features everything needed to gain a larger market share. As far as I am concerned, the Casio Exilim EX Z850 is absolutely recommended!
