|Canon EOS 30D digital SLR camera
With the arrival of the Canon EOS 30D model, we see Canon's fifth introduction in the popular D-SLR middle segment. It is admittedly somewhat confusing that its name is virtually identical to that of the first type: the Canon EOS D30. This is likely to cause many a mix-up when talking about the camera, because the name D30 is still engraved in the memory of many seasoned photographers. That is, however, where the comparison ends, as the Canon 30D barely resembles Canon's first model, with which the brand at the time managed to force a price break-through.
Canon EOS 30D - High quality SLR camera
Compared to its predecessor, the EOS 20D, there haven't been all too many changes, which means the quality of the Canon EOS 30D does not come as much of a surprise; it is still extremely high, just as it has always been. Canon manage to get the full effect out of the CMOS sensor, which is partly due to their DIGIC II processor. The fact that the Canon EOS 30D has a "mere" eight Megapixels and not (more than) ten Megapixels, such as on the Nikon D200, should not directly be seen as a disadvantage. Especially as far as noise is concerned, the Canon EOS 30D easily outdoes the D200. Furthermore, there isn't really that much of a difference in the final image size. If we start from 300dpi, the Canon EOS 30D DSLR produces a photo of 29.7 x 19.8cm, whereas the Nikon D200 manages 32.8 x 22cm. This is a relatively small difference. Think about it, when it really comes down to it, don't we ultimately prefer less pixels if they are of an excellent quality, than a lot of pixels that are of a noticeably lesser quality? By this we mainly refer to the signal/noise ratio per pixel. The Canon EOS 30D enables you to use ISO 800 or ISO 1600 without any hindrance. Even ISO 3200 can still be used for many applications. This is truly an outstanding performance. We are very positive about the Picture Styles. It is a very intuitive way of handling the image settings. You can adjust the photo entirely to your own taste.
Canon 30D d-SLR camera - Spot metering & Buffer
Most changes that have been made to the camera involve the actual photographing. The spot metering, for instance, is a long cherished wish and makes the option to use the Canon EOS 30D in addition to, for example, an EOS 5D as a back-up, very interesting indeed. You should, however, keep in mind the difference in focal length multiplier factor. In addition, the larger buffer is very pleasant; it can in fact not possibly be large enough! Especially now that the shutter will last approximately 100,000 images, the Canon EOS 30D has become a very attractive investment for enthusiastic amateurs or (starting) semi-professional photographers. The Canon EOS 30D also offer the enthusiastic photographer plenty of opportunities to grow and enhance his or her photographic skills. You can start as completely inexperienced photographer, and as you grow and advance in photography, the camera is guaranteed to still provide you with countless years of photographic fun.
Canon EOS 30D digital SLR - Fast camera
On top of all of this, the Canon EOS 30D is simply a very pleasant camera to work with. It is very fast camera in every aspect. The camera is ready before you can even open your mouth, the auto focus is prompt (also with non-USM lenses), with a maximum of 5 images per second you are perfectly able to follow action moments, and besides that, the photos are rapidly stored onto the memory card. You could even say the photographer will have to do his very best to keep up with the camera! Another ideal feature is the large 2.5 inch monitor on the back of the camera. It isn't just the large size that attracts; it is also of excellent quality.
Canon EOS 30D digital reflex camera - Evolution
Those who were somewhat disappointed when the Canon EOS 30D was announced, should in fact try to look beyond the superficial size of the resolution. Granted, there haven't been all too many changes, but then again, did the last model really leave a lot of room for improvement? You could also look at it as a confirmation that the EOS 20D is already a stunning camera. De Canon 30D has only been improved where it was needed. The image quality was already good, but assets such as Picture Styles give it that little extra surplus value where the image is concerned. To top it off, the retail price is lower than the introduction price of the Canon EOS 20D. Taking all of this into consideration, we advise you not to preoccupy yourself solely with the amount of Megapixels and arrays of setting possibilities. It has already been mentioned here and there: the Megapixels race is over and, in our opinion; it is time to focus on internal issues concerning the image quality. The only thing we need now is a larger viewfinder, which, as far as I am concerned, really should have been integrated.
Canon EOS 30D digital SLR - Fantastic camera
Even though the Canon 30D may not exactly be a revolutionary digital SLR camera, and the expectations were somewhat subdued, it is still a truly fantastic camera. The concept was already solid as could be, but with the introduction of the Canon EOS 30D, Canon have once again clearly asserted and strengthened its roots and their position. There are virtually no points that might cause any form of hindrance for the user, which, in our opinion, is an excellent performance indeed. A superb camera!
