Nikon Coolpix P1 | Digital Camera Review | Introduction
Nikon Coolpix P1 Wireless review : During the IFA event 2005 in Berlin I attended the press conference of Nikon Europe. In this conference Nikon introduced their first series of digital cameras with built-in Wi-Fi functionality. Nikon were not the first to announce a camera with Wi-Fi availability, but they were definitely the very first to deliver a camera with this function built-in the camera unlike Kodak did with the EasyShare-One; using a memory card with Wi-Fi functions. Nikon has obtained a lot of experience in the professional segment and by introducing the Nikon Coolpix P1 and P2 with built-in Wi-Fi functionality they take the first steps in the consumer market.

Nikon Coolpix P1 - Wi-Fi module
Wi-Fi enables wireless communication with a computer, printer or server. The expectation is that Wi-Fi will become one of the most important and in any case one of the most user-friendly connections. An expensive valuable Wi-Fi module is already available for the professional models. And the introduction of the Nikon P1 makes Wi-Fi available to the consumer. Whether it is very useful at this moment remains unclear, because Wi-Fi is not yet a common thing in nowadays living rooms. The only advantage for the user is that it is not necessary to attach a cable.

Nikon P1 Wireless - 8 Megapixel resolution
Besides the Nikon Coolpix P1, the Coolpix P2 features a built-in Wi-Fi module. The cameras are almost identical, the only two differences are their resolution, respectively 8 and 5 Megapixels, and their continuous speed. The Nikon Coolpix P1 is available in silver as well as in black and both colours look extremely good on the camera. The Coolpix P1 offers no less than 8 Megapixels. This is more than sufficient to make a huge print that will be of high quality. Many pixels on a small sensor do demand quality requirements from the processor and the optics. They have to be of high quality but we don't have to worry about that. Nikon has extremely wide experience in that field and have proven for decades that they possess the know-how.

Nikon Coolpix P1 - 3.5x Optical zoom
The Nikon P1 is equipped with a 3.5x optical zoom that perfectly captures most moments. The combination with the pleasantly compact and light body makes the Coolpix P1 an interesting camera to always carry with you. And because of the ability to send photos wirelessly to your notebook you don't need to bring a cable on holiday, unless of course you left your notebook at home. Besides, a cable is one of those items of which you tend to forget where on earth you stored it!

Nikon P1 review
We already had one of the first pre-production samples in the house, but were not able to come to an end-conclusion due to its status. After receiving a full production sample, we tried out the Nikon Coolpix P1 in practice and besides its photographic quality; we tested the possibilities of Wi-Fi. Our experiences can be read in the following Nikon Coolpix P1 digital camera review.
