Canon Digital IXUS 750 | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
In small cameras there is no room for a large battery and a CompactFlash card. That's why it is only logical that the Canon IXUS 750 stores its images on a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. This Secure Digital (SD) card is widely available in various high storage capacities and speeds. Thanks to the increasing availability of memory cards, especially in the SD range, cards with a high storage capacity have become more attractively priced. The advantage of a format such as the Secure Digital card is that it can often also be used in an MP3 or PDA, thereby making it even more applicable.

SanDisk Ultra II Plus Secure Digital memory card
During our tests in practice, I have supplied the Canon IXUS 750 with a new type of memory card, the SanDisk Ultra II Plus SD memory card. It has the format of an SD card, but has an absolutely unique feature: by taking the card out of the camera and literally bending it in half, a USB interface appears. By doing this you can directly insert the card in an available USB port, hereby gaining access to the stored photos or video recordings. This means neither cables nor a card reader are required, even the camera is not needed for this.

Considering 512MB of storage capacity:

32MB Secure Digital memory card
Canon has supplied the Canon IXUS 750 with a 32MB SD card. This card can be used to make the first photos, but in all honesty, isn't really that useful. The fact that the camera comes with one, is more of a gesture. Because the Digital IXUS 750 has a considerably high resolution, the files are reasonably large. Therefore a large card is advisable. In my opinion, a Secure Digital card of 256MB would be the absolute minimum. Personally, I would recommend 512MB or 1GB. A remarkable setting is the post card resolution, which has the date enclosed and is accurately sized for a 10x15cm print.

USB 2.0 High Speed connection
The Canon IXUS 750 is equipped with a USB 2.0 High Speed connection which enables the images to be transferred with amazing speed. Downloading the images from the camera costs energy, therefore it can be practical to use a card reader or, as I have, a SanDisk SD Plus memory card. As far as speed is concerned, the camera's USB interface is rather pleasant to work with, it hardly takes any time to transfer the images from the camera.

Canon NB-3L Lithium Ion battery
The power is provided by a small 3.7V 790mAh Lithium Ion battery (Canon NB-3L). If necessary, an optional A/C adapter can be used. This adapter would also come in handy when the camera is used more often to display the images via a TV. With a full battery approximately 100-150 photos can be made. This may not be enough for a holiday, but for those who only intend to take the Canon IXUS 750 with them for the occasional photo, it will suffice for at least a week. If you plan to take the camera with you on holiday, it would be advisable to bring the charger or a second battery.
