Konica-Minolta DiMAGE Z6 Camera review | Conclusion
Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 digital camera
The Konica Minolta Z6 is the successor of the Z5. Besides an increase of resolution from 5 to 6 Megapixels and an improved energy consumption there is not much more new on it other than the fact that it is a logical step for Konica Minolta to enter the 6 Megapixel class. Compared with its competitors the DiMAGE Z6 is a striking digital camera. The design strongly distinguishes itself from the traditionally designed camera, and it appears to attract the consumer. The obvious handgrip offers fantastic support and gives the camera a comfy hand-fit. The material used (plastic) doesn't diminish the overall quality feeling with the exception of the buttons; unfortunately we don't appreciate them too much.

Konica Minolta Z6 - Lens with large zoom range
The Konica Minolta Z6 features two strong trumps, firstly the beautiful lens with its large zoom range which makes the Z6 camera a versatile applicable camera. This range offers the user more freedom and it invites him/her to go out frequently and capture those special moments. It would be gross if the camera would start with a wide angle, but still, something to wish for should remain in life. The lens is of high quality and lives up to the expectations. Distortion is under control and so is chromatic aberration.

DiMAGE Z6 - Anti-Shake system
And secondly, the most beautiful component of the DiMAGE Z6 camera when the camera shows its real force is the Anti-Shake system. I've said it already: once you've worked with a system like this you are spoiled rotten and won't go for anything else anymore. The camera becomes very stable because of this system and it still catches you by surprise that you are able to photograph straight from the hand, with 420mm without needing a tripod or a wall to put the camera on. The highly appreciated and praised Anti-Shake system effortlessly compensates jitter caused by the user's hand. Without exaggerating we may say that this system is the best of all currently available systems. In fact, the application of the Anti-Shake function is the largest difference between the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 and competing Megazoom cameras in the same price class.

Konica Minolta Z6 camera - Quick button
Operation of the DiMAGE Z6 digital camera is simple, and despite of the lack of some icons, a beginning photographer will soon be able to work with the camera. The menu could do with some alterations to make it a more logical one, especially because the advanced user will dig into it frequently. The dedicated quick button is functional in itself; however, I fail to understand why it has to be at the cost of the flash settings, to me, that is not a logical step. A separate quick button should be available here.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 - Good image quality
The overall image quality is fine, with a fine colour rendition showing natural colours. The noise ratio is rather high, starting at 200 ISO. The prints however are neat, but the image rendition on the monitor is much more critical. The ISO range is therefore less useful and if you want to go for the highest quality possible you'd have to settle for and stick to ISO 100. The images turn out fine and are a good base for a true-to-life print. The sharpening is not too strong, possibilities for editing the shot afterwards are still open for those who like to control the end results themselves.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 review - Conclusion
In a nutshell: we may consider the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 a fine successor of the DiMAGE Z5 camera, without extraordinary changes. The resolution raise doesn't bring a lot in terms of percentage, but in the long run it will prove to be the perfect choice when the lower resolution DiMAGE Z5 version will disappear. The camera is all-round applicable, offers an excellent innovation: the Anti-Shake system and moreover; its design nicely stands out from the crowd. Price / quality ratio is excellent and Konica Minolta brings a very attractive digital camera into the market that will certainly not be a flash in the pan. Here's one to stay, a definite must!
