|Canon Powershot S2 IS digital camera review : The Canon Powershot S2 IS, quite a mouth full, is the successor of the S1. The Powershot S2 IS was officially introduced in April of this year and is available for some months now. The Canon S2 IS camera features an impressive optical zoom of 12x combined with an almost indispensable image stabilisation. When used to working with this function, you don't want to do without it anymore. The specifications of the Canon Powershot S2 IS are impressive; 5 Megapixels, 12x zoom with optical image stabilisation, high video clip resolution and the already rather famous DIGIC II processor.
Canon Powershot S2 IS - DIGIC II
The in-house developed processor is Canon's strong trump. First incorporated in the professional Canon digital reflex cameras, the DIGIC II processor now found its way into the consumer digital camera. In particular this processor enables the remarkably higher speed when processing the captured images and it also improves the focus speed. Also possible now is the ability of capturing high resolution images during recording video clips. All in all, the processor is an important item inside the Canon S2 IS camera that certainly lifts the camera's performance to a higher level.
Canon S2 IS - Mega zoom digital camera
Over the last few years, a new group of digital cameras has appeared showing a heavy competition within. The Mega zoom cameras, with a minimum requirement of an 8x optical zoom, may be characterised as fully versatile digital cameras that offer the user everything he needs. This is also the case with the Canon S2 IS. A 12x optical zoom combined with optical image stabilisation, 5 Megapixels of resolution and an abundance of (manual) settings make this model a strong competitor in the group of entry level digital reflex cameras. Canon now, made a vast difference here, by equipping the new EOS 350D with 8 Megapixels and a price that is very clear to the consumer. It makes the difference clear between the Canon entry level group of cameras and the advanced ones. Other manufacturers seem to have problems with it, and are even forced to eliminate their own advanced compact camera series, for the benefit of their digital (entry level) reflex camera.
Canon Powershot S2 IS - Digital camera review
At this very moment, Canon is holding a strong grip on the digital camera market. From all sides negative news comes to us, prognoses are being adjusted, 80% down is a shocking number and we even see renowned manufactures withdrawing from what seemed to be the promising area of the world before: Asia. Canon however is a strong player in this turbulent market and the strong camera brand takes a leading position and is able to maintain it dominantly. Nearly eight months of 2005 have already gone by, and the rest of this year will become a fierce battle for many manufacturers. But Canon seems to be ready for it!.
