Konica-Minolta DiMAGE Z20 | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 is equipped with a memory slot for Secure Digital and also offers the possibility to use MultiMedia memory cards. This latter type of memory card is not overall present on today's memory card market; although it is conquering some more market shares because of the increasing amount of cellphones with built-in cameras, the so-called cameraphones. The Secure Digital memory card may be looked upon as a standard nowadays. Besides this popular and extremely compact memory card, the well-known Memory Stick stands for everything that is Sony and the xD Picture memory card for products of the Fuji and Olympus brands. The SD (Secure Digital) card is available in many varieties. Like the standard card from low to high storage capacity (GB) and a normal write and read speed of data. The faster version for example is the SanDisk Ultra II type of memory card and the fastest, at this moment, is the SanDisk Extreme III Secure Digital memory card. The latter version is meant for the professional who doesn't want to waste time on storing images, and who wants to get the most out of its combination of professional camera and storage.

DiMAGE Z20 - Secure Digital memory card
The Konica Minolta Z20 has a fast startup time and is also speedy with its other functions. The speed of over 3 frames per second is a good performance. The buffer can only take 3 images before filling up. In general the performance is great, certainly for a digital camera in this attractively affordable price range. The images are stored on the internal memory of approximately 14MB or on an optional SD memory card. Of course the latter one has our preferences; a high resolution camera like the DiMAGE Z20 deserves more than the skimpy 14MB of the internal memory! We consider a 256MB Secure Digital memory card as a minimum storage capacity for this camera.

Considering 256MB storage capacity:
Resolution 2560x1920 pixels - Fine - 100 images - 2460KB
Resolution 2560x1920 pixels - Standard - 196 images - 1260KB
Resolution 2560x1920 pixels - Economy - 376 images - 660KB
Resolution 2048x1536 pixels - Fine - 152 images - 1600KB
Resolution 2048x1536 pixels - Standard - 296 images - 830KB
Resolution 2048x1536 pixels - Economy - 552 images - 440KB
Resolution 1600x1200 pixels - Fine - 244 images - 1000KB
Resolution 1600x1200 pixels - Standard - 468 images - 530KB
Resolution 1600x1200 pixels - Economy - 812 images - 290KB
Resolution 640x480 pixels - Fine - 1188 images - 210KB
Resolution 640x480 pixels - Standard - 1720 images - 130KB
Resolution 640x480 pixels - Economy - 2580 images - 100KB

Video Resolution 640x480 pixels - 15 fps - 540KB/sec - 116 images
Video Resolution 320x240 pixels - 30 fps - 670KB/sec - 91 images
Video Resolution 320x240 pixels - 15 fps - 340KB/sec - 183 images
Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 - Different resolutions
The camera features four different types of image resolutions, from 2560x1920 in the highest quality to 640x480, a handy resolution for the Internet or email. Besides settings for resolution the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 also offers a choice out of three compression settings: Fine, Standard and Economy. If you hesitate to what compression to take, decide if you want to print your digital images or if you are definitely planning to do so, then choose the highest resolution and the Fine compression!

Batteries - DiMAGE Z20 economical
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 features a compartment for four AA sized batteries, on the bottom of the camera in the handgrip. And it must be said: they deliver an outstanding performance! The energy consumption of the DiMAGE Z20 was a pleasant surprise! The energy lasts for hours and hours in recording mode. When only viewing the captured pictures you may double the amount of hours. A spectacular achievement! Standard delivered are some alkaline batteries, but in order to really enjoy the low energy consumption we recommend at the least 2100mAh NiMH batteries. The price should not be a problem for those who need more energy, for example when going on holiday or on a cruise on the sea or a river. Another advantage of using AA batteries is the fact that they are worldwide available, almost on every corner of the street.
