Nikon Coolpix S1 | Digital Camera Review | Conclusion
Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera - Stylish design
When you see the Nikon Coolpix S1 for the first time, it is inevitable that you will watch the beautiful design in admiration. It's a must to have held the camera in your hands for a while. If you are completely indifferent as far as design is concerned, you might fall for the efficient way of operating the camera and the well-organized menu. I must admit that I am very much impressed by the design, the user friendliness and the ease of use of the Coolpix S1. The stylish design is neatly finished and the material used gives the Nikon Coolpix S1 a solid feeling. The compact size enables carrying the camera with you always and anywhere. The camera hasn't got a handgrip or whatsoever, but still the Nikon S1 lies very comfortable in your hand, or better: within your fingers.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Logical and well-organized
The large monitor on the back of the camera makes up for the lack of an optical viewfinder. In practice it already occurred very seldom that you used the small optical viewfinder, the monitor however gets used a lot more frequently. Rendition of the monitor is superb and capturing an image and reviewing it or sharing it with others is very pleasant. The friendly menu of the Nikon Coolpix S1 is also rendered excellently on the monitor. The construction of the menu is logical and well-organized. Nikon is not found guilty of stuffing the camera with all sorts of setting possibilities that will hardly be used in practice or not at all. In fact, Nikon is absolutely clear with allocating the setting possibilities of the Nikon S1. The camera is designed with emphasis on ease of use and effortlessly photographing in every situation. In my opinion Nikon achieved this goal. Applying innovations like automatic red eye correction and the exclusive Nikon D-Lighting give the camera absolutely a surplus value. I am convinced that this is not the last we have seen on the field of in-camera image editing.

Nikon S1 camera - Hardly any disadvantages
The overall conclusion is that there are hardly any disadvantages on the Nikon Coolpix S1. Bearing in mind the target group at which the Nikon is aimed at, there are no comments from our side. Regarding the speed, the Nikon S1 could be optimised here and there. An enhancement of the shutter speeds, to a slower and faster shutter speed would be desirable. Also speed could be gained with focussing, it takes a while before the flash is recharged completely and the camera has a limited range of ISO sensitivities up to ISO 400. Besides this, the optical zoom lens could do with more stops when zooming from wide angle to telephoto and vice versa.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - A complete digital camera
With the design of the Nikon Coolpix S1, Nikon entered the world of design again. The design is absolutely convincing and a real eye-catcher. And the emphasis on user friendliness and the user's convenience completes it. The Nikon Coolpix S1 is a suitable digital camera for those who want to take pictures in an easy way, and who want to take a camera with them everywhere. The high resolution images of 5 Megapixels ensure excellent prints and the innovative and efficient way of in-camera image editing adds to the impressive end result. I consider the Nikon Coolpix S1 as a successful digital camera that lies at the roots of a new line of Nikon digital cameras as far as I'm concerned!
