|Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital camera review : The theme of the year 2004 is the breakthrough of the 8 Megapixel cameras. At this moment the situation occurs that a Nikon digital reflex camera has a lower resolution than a consumer camera. The fact that the resolution is only just one of the many features that contributes to the end result is not (yet) recognized by the masses. The race for more and even more Megapixels resembles the race for more and more Mhz on the computer.
Nikon Coolpix 8700 - Improvement
The Coolpix 8700 is introduced worldwide on January 8, 2004 by Nikon. This model takes over the top position from the Coolpix 5700, which was the top model so far. The new Nikon Coolpix 8700 is a full digital camera in a compact housing similar to the housing of the Coolpix 5700. The Nikon Coolpix 8700 is equipped with an 8x optical zoom range. This type of digital cameras aims at the consumer with a considerable knowledge of digital photography or the consumer who is ready for a new photographic challenge or at the photographer who seeks to lift his knowledge onto a higher level. The Coolpix is Nikons flagship with which Nikon starts the competition. Competing brands have all brought their own 8 Megapixel version on the market and they all share one feature: a large optical zoom range up until a maximum of 8x.
Nikon Coolpix 8700 - Metamorphosis
The whole series of Coolpix products has undergone a metamorphosis lately. The bottom half of the series seems to aim to meet the demands of the majority of the consumers: user-friendly, compact and a good price. The top half of the series contains digital cameras like the Nikon Coolpix 5700 and Coolpix 8700, and right above them we find the D70 digital reflex camera with the one that beats the lot: the Nikon D2H digital SLR for the professional sports photographer. The Nikon Coolpix 8700 was in our possession for one week and was used extensively in practice. My experiences are written down in the following review.
