Ricoh CX1 camera design
Something that is noticed immediately about the design of the Ricoh CX1, is the fact the camera is totally fuss-free. There is a small handgrip at the front of the camera, providing just enough grip, as well as a small flash, a miniscule assist lamp and, naturally, the lens. If the camera is turned off, the lens is neatly tucked away inside.

This is all you will see on the front of the camera, showing a neat design. The entire camera is carried out in black, except for the type name which really stands out in silver. Even the brand name hardly stands out; very unpretentious.
Ricoh CX1 camera operation
The same tidiness is found on top of the camera, with nicely engraved letters. Furthermore, the on/off switch is found here. It is somewhat on the small side, but remains easy to operate. The zoom button encircles the shutter release with, right next to it, the command dial for various shooting modes. If you wonder where most buttons are found; well, they are actually positioned on the back of the camera. Also here, everything is nicely fitted and the buttons have beautiful rectangular shapes.
Ricoh CX1 joystick
The neatly designed back is as one with the camera's design. Entirely at the top right, the joystick is located for several settings, and by pushing the joystick you will enter the quick menu to adjust the main settings. Next to the joystick, a rubber coating is placed that proves exactly right for your thumb. This has clearly been thought through. The 3 inch, high resolution LCD display takes up most of the room and provides an excellent viewing angle. Furthermore, the Ricoh CX1 features a USB connection and video out. The battery and memory card are situated at the bottom of the camera, well-covered by a lid.
