Panasonic Lumix DMC GF1 | Digital Camera Review | Introduction
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 review : Micro Four Thirds is booming. Manufacturers like Panasonic regularly announce new products and accessories for the unique DSLR-alternative; the Micro Four Thirds System. At the time the system was first announced, expectations certainly ran high with regards to design and dimensions, but when we first saw the Panasonic Lumix G1, we were admittedly somewhat disappointed. Not so much because of the system, but rather because the similarity to the traditional digital SLR was still too strong. It turned out to be just a matter of time ...

Panasonic Lumix GF1 Micro Four Thirds camera
The launch of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 finally brings us the Micro Four Thirds system camera that many of us, including myself, have been hoping for. Unfortunately for Panasonic, it was Olympus that ran off with the actual scoop, having introduced their E-P1 just a bit earlier. However, there are clear differences between the two cameras. Given the enthusiastic response from both press and consumers, it looks good for the Micro Four Thirds System.

Panasonic Lumix GF1 versus Olympus Pen E-P1
Whereas Olympus has opted to go for a retro design, with a little wink to the famous PEN past, Panasonic chooses a more traditional design with the unmistakable similarity to the Lumix LX3. Besides enthusiastic responses to the PEN E-P1, there are also comments and remarks. And it is on exactly these points that Panasonic is confident to score with the GF1. This is why the Panasonic Lumix GF1 does feature a built-in flash, and even more importantly; focusing is carried out significantly faster. Naturally, we also find a video function just like that of the E-P1 on the GF1, with options to capture in AVCHD or M-JPEG in 720p.

Panasonic Lumix GF1 review including a technical DIWA Labs test
The availability of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 brings us the first genuine compact Panasonic Micro Four Thirds system camera. A camera that has been eagerly awaited by many, because wouldn't it be great to have a system camera with the quality of a DSLR yet the size of a compact camera? The Panasonic Lumix GF1 has become real, and now it only comes down to the results from testing in practice, combined with the technical test results from the DIWA Labs, to be able to come to an unbiased final conclusion. Our findings can be read in the following Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 review.

Panasonic DMC-GF1

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is a new addition to the Lumix G Micro System, and aims mainly at the advanced photographer. The entirely new design, far more compact and as well as more lightweight than before, ensures the GF1 really distinguishes itself from the masses."
