|Pentax K7 SLR camera
Pentax does not have an equally big marketing budget as that of Canon or Nikon. That is why the brand remains somewhat inconspicuous, due to all the attention that is claimed by the other brands. However, Pentax certainly is a brand that deserves attention. Something Pentax proves once again with the K-7. It is a very interesting and nice-looking camera for serious photographers, and even for professional photographers.
Pentax K7 camera quality
There is no other camera in this class that offers the same level of control on how a picture will turn out, as the Pentax K-7. As a user, you are really in charge of the camera and of how the end result turns out. Within the limits of technology that is, because you have no control over the sensor quality. In itself, the sensor is fine, although not groundbreaking. Up to ISO 1600 can be used without a problem, at higher ISOs, however, the quality drops quickly. I have seen better on its generation buddies.
Pentax K7 image quality
The color reproduction is remarkably fine, also at high sensitivities. Whereas usually colors tend to drop, this is not the case for the Pentax K-7, where they remain at a good level. Nor do I have any comments about the exposure. Pentax even deserves a compliment for all the exposure programs the K7 features. Modes such as Sv and TAv are very welcome additions, and the option to go to the exposure program by using the green button if you are swapping to manual exposure mode, is simply ingenious. I can't tell you enough; Pentax really stands out for this, and excels over the competition.
Motion sensor of the Pentax K7
Something else which is both special and unique is the motion sensor, which is not only used to prevent jitter, but also aids you in composing your picture very precisely. Just by rotating the sensor slightly, or by moving it horizontally and/or vertically. This is simply fantastic, although it only makes sense if you work from a tripod. Other new features like HDR, are also nice, although not as interesting to me. It can also be done in different ways.
Focussing with the Pentax K-7
The focus of other Pentax models was already good; but on the K7 it has even slightly improved. Again, Pentax is not on the same level with the Japanese giants. It’s not that pictures made by the Pentax K-7 will not turn out sharp, it's just somewhat slower. This should not be a problem, however, especially if you don't do action photography. You can increase the speed by using a lens with a built-in focus engine.
Pentax K7 kitl ens
And this brings me to the bottleneck of the Pentax K-7. You need to use an excellent lens to really make use of the quality the K7 offers. The new kit lens is nice, but is nowhere near impressive. It's even a little disappointing, especially given the ugly bokeh. But use the SMC DA 17-70mm f/4.0 AL (IF) SDM lens, and the quality will increase significantly.
Pentax K7 review conclusion
Or take a pancake, which Pentax has proven very well-able to build. What’s more, you will then own a pleasantly compact set, which is a true joy to work with, including a fine shutter sound, and it is able to withstand rain bucketing down as well as a possible sand storm. The Pentax K-7 is a unique product with many setting options and one-of-a-kind features. It is definitely a camera that is worth looking at by the serious photographer. It may not be perfect, but it is certainly extraordinary. And I do appreciate a little bit of stubbornness at times.
