Pentax K7 | Digital Camera Review | Introduction
Pentax K7 digital SLR camera review : The DSLR market is dominated by Nikon and Canon. These are the brands that have conquered the largest market share, and they certainly keep an eye on each other. However, this is something that often proves to have a somewhat negative influence on the creativity of the manufacturers, as it generally means they lose a little bit of their daring. Fortunately however, there are also smaller brands such as Pentax. These smaller brands do not need to worry about whether or not they are number one. They just make cameras the way they think they should be. A little cocky at times, but that is only healthy. The Pentax K-7 is one of these cameras. The majority of the masses will probably overlook the camera, however; for the enthusiast photographer, it is a very well-structured camera. It features functions that are in my opinion often unrightfully ignored by the big boys.

14.6 megapixel Pentax K-7 SLR camera
The thing that makes the Pentax K-7 special is not found in its specifications. The CMOS sensor, measuring 23.4 mm x 15.6 mm featuring a sensor factor of 1.5 x, has been entirely redesigned. 14.6 million pixels of the sensor are used effectively. Data is processed at a high speed, thanks to the four-channel readout. The buffer fits 40 high-quality JPEG images, and a frame speed of 5.2 per second can be reached. The sensitivity of the sensor ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 6400. The latter through a custom function.

Dust reduction sensor on the Pentax K7 DSLR
Right in front of the sensor, a low-pass filter has been applied. It vibrates supersonically, thanks to a piezoelectric element, thus preventing visible dust in a picture. The K-7 even allows you to check whether it is done properly. This is one of Pentax's clever ideas. The new dust reduction system of Pentax is called DRII, and is an improvement compared to previous models.

Recording HD videos with the Pentax K7 camera
The processor has also been improved. The Pentax K7 now features an integrated, newly developed PRIME II processor. This processor is also responsible for reducing the amount of noise, and ensures fast processing of the images. This speed is also useful when capturing videos. Like almost all modern DSLR cameras, the Pentax K7 also enables recording in HD. The maximum quality is 720p30, which means 1280x720 pixels at a frame rate of 30 fps. To ensure a good sound, the Pentax also features a connection for an external microphone.

Pentax K-7 auto focus sensor
When capturing videos, focus is carried out by the image sensor. For common photography, the K7 naturally features a special autofocus sensor. The AF system of the Pentax K-7 consists of a widescreen 11-point autofocus sensor and the new focus processor SAFOX VIII. The 9 center areas are so-called cross-type sensors for accurate and fast autofocus. A newly developed 77-area light metering system should ensure perfectly exposed images.

Pentax K-7 equipped with SR mechanism
To avoid jitter at slower shutter speeds, the Pentax K7 features a new generation SR mechanism. Thanks to this new SR method, you will benefit between 2.5 and 4 stops. Since the system is integrated in the camera, it works with all lenses that fit on the camera. When the image stabilization comes into action, the sensor moves. This option is used to provide automatic leveling. The sensor can then be rotated slightly, so that the image becomes horizontal again. You can also move the sensor slightly upwards or sideways for a very precise composition. Obviously, this is only useful if you work with a tripod. Being able to use the motion sensor this way, is yet another unique feature of the Pentax K-7.

Pentax K7 review
Naturally, the K7 features TAv and Sv exposure modes, which are typical of Pentax. New is the HDR option. Also, the dynamic range can be expanded to make a nice, detailed picture. The Pentax K-7 truly is an enhanced DSLR, which is not only interesting for the demanding amateur photographer, but also for the professional; for whom the K7 would be a good investment. How well the Pentax K-7 actually works in practice, we experienced during a long-lasting test. The following Pentax K7 review reveals our findings.
