Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS | Digital Camera Review | Introduction
Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS digital camera review : Canon aptly participates in the Megapixel race with the IXUS 200 IS. The small compact cameras already feature an extremely tiny image sensor, and to apply it with no less than 12 million pixels seems to be a contradiction. However, not as far as marketing is concerned; they seem all too happy to see high resolution figures pass by. Still, Canon is showing slight traces of change; for example with the new PowerShot G11 and S90. Both cameras are aimed at advanced photographers, and both cameras are equipped with fewer Megapixels (MP 10) than expected. This does not (yet) applies to the Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS camera, but, who knows? Perhaps the next generation of IXUS cameras will await the same fate.

Zoom range of the 12 megapixel Canon IXUS 200 IS
The Canon IXUS 200 IS camera features a 1/2.3-inch sized sensor with 12 megapixels driven and then processed by a powerful DIGIC 4 processor. The Canon Digital IXUS 200IS provides optical stabilization, which means the 5x zoom allows you to shoot without worrying about possible jitter. The zoom range starts with a nice wide angle of 24 mm, allowing for perfect capture of small indoor spaces or the beautiful scenery during a holiday.

Canon IXUS 200IS equipped with touchscreen monitor
Even though the Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS has a long line of predecessors, Canon still manages to come up with innovative solutions every time. And indeed, this IXUS camera is the first Canon digital compact camera that is equipped with a so-called Touchscreen monitor. The monitor measures 3-inch and pretty much covers the entire back of the camera. The Canon IXUS 200 IS camera does not fully have to be operated by its touchscreen. The physical buttons on the back, next to the display, allow you to operate the camera the 'old-fashioned' way.

Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS review
The Canon Digital 200 IS camera is a designer camera aimed at the photographer who chooses convenience. So don't expect to find extensive settings such as aperture or shutter speed. On the other hand; the camera does provide many handy automated modes, including a large amount of scenes, face detection and 720p video recording. The Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS camera has been in our possession for a short period of time. Our findings can be read in the following Canon IXUS 200 IS review.

Canon IXUS 200 IS

"The priority of an IXUS lies on a stylish and outstanding design, although the user-friendliness is equally important. The Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS camera is the latest model in the IXUS 2009 line. The Canon IXUS 200 IS camera is Canon’s first compact camera to provide a touchscreen operation. By simply tapping on a subject on the screen with your finger, focus is activated and the subject will be tracked. The following Canon IXUS 200 IS camera test photos were taken in the centre of Amsterdam, the Netherlands "
