Panasonic Lumix DMC GH1 | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
There are no essential changes regarding the use of memory cards compared to the G1. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 features a card slot with SD / SDHC card support, providing large storage capacities as high as 32GB. SD and SDHC memory cards may be considered a standard memory card. There are many types of devices using this format, significantly adding to the interchangeability of the cards. There is also a very wide range of brands, speeds and storage capacities to choose from.

Panasonic Lumix GH1 a fast digital system camera
The Panasonic DMC-GH1 responds very quickly, especially for a camera in this segment. In the beginning, we were quite skeptical about the initial announcement about the Panasonic GH1 using AF contrast detection. Although maybe quite obvious for this concept, we were just not that thrilled about it, considering our experiences in terms of speed with similar systems. Therefore, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that speed is possible, and that rapid snapshots are also possible with cameras like the GH1. During shooting, you will never run into any form of delay. Shutter lag is measurable, but not noticeable in practice. In addition, the AF is quite extensive with a 23 multi-segment AF including the possibility to place a focus point randomly in the composition. Extraordinary also is tracking AF and Face Detection; both working great on the Panasonic GH1.

SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB 30MB/sec card
The speed of approximately 3 fps allows the Panasonic Lumix GH1 to capture action moments as a series. Naturally, there are speed monsters that can take an excessive 10fps, but the Panasonic GH1 is just not really the appropriate camera for this. It is important to go for a fast memory card, so it won't become the bottleneck of the system. To test the speed of the Panasonic DMC-GH1 speed, we used a SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB 30MB/sec card.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 test

Panasonic DMW-BLB13E Lithium-Ion battery
The Panasonic DMC-GH1 obtains its energy from a DMW-BLB13E Lithium-Ion battery with a capacity of 1250mAh. Charging of the battery using the standard included battery charger takes around 155 minutes. If we consider the measurements that have been carried out according to CIPA standard, a fully charged battery should deliver approximately 300 pictures or offer capturing for 150 minutes. CIPA is short for Camera & Imaging Products Association and carries out standardized measurements. In practice, test circumstances will not be similar, so count with fewer pictures on one charge. Usually; the more time there is in between taking pictures, the fewer pictures can be made with a fully loaded battery. If you are not able to recharge the battery in between shooting, you might want to consider purchasing a second battery.
