|Ricoh Caplio GX digital camera review : Beginning of May 2004 Ricoh made the step into the 5 Megapixel class. According to the many reactions on the Internet, the introduction of the Ricoh Caplio GX was warmly welcomed. The introduction of the new series of digital cameras like the Caplio RX, introduced last March, and now the Caplio GX, makes Ricoh visible on the digital camera market again. In the past we have seen diverse Ricoh digital cameras bringing along many innovations. From handy closing LCD monitors, network applications to ultra fast intervals of release. This in itself is a contradiction, because the fast release hardly has an interval.
Ricoh Caplio GX - High resolution class
As said before, Ricoh is putting the first step into the high resolution class, which can be considered as fairly late. On the other hand it is probably very sensible while the amounts of sold cameras are not found in the high resolution class, but in the 2-4 Megapixel cameras. The time has come for Ricoh to put a step forward. This is the year the 6-8 Megapixel cameras have entered the digital camera market and we notice a swing from the 3 to the 4 Megapixel camera. The Ricoh Caplio GX is a digital camera with an effective resolution of 5 Megapixels and a 3x optical zoom which doesn't start from 35 or 38mm like most digital cameras, but from 28mm. Thus being a real wide-angle.
Ricoh Caplio GX - Getting serious
The new line of Ricoh's digital cameras is getting serious and in my opinion, this line deserves a shelf in the shop-window of the photo dealer. The specifications look good, the design is modern and we were really curious about how this new Ricoh model would react when put to practice. The next digital camera review is the result of a few days of experience with the Ricoh Caplio GX in practice.
