|Canon PowerShot SX200 IS digital camera review : The introduction of the Canon PowerShot SX200IS is Canon's response to Panasonic's success with the TravelZoom series Megazoom cameras. To be honest, we had been baffled for quite a while by the fact that Canon, as well as all the other camera manufacturers, simply allowed Panasonic to move ahead without any form of counter attack. Moreover, in 2009, Panasonic introduced a new TravelZoom camera; the latest Panasonic TZ7. Now that the Canon SX200IS is available, it means competition has finally arrived, and with the specifications of Canon's newborn Megazoom camera, it will be hard for the competition to at least keep pace.
Canon SX200 IS Megazoom camera
The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS Megazoom camera has compact dimensions, although it is still reasonably heavy for its small size. If you take the camera into your hands, you will know right away why it is not called a feather-weight. The housing is beautifully finished and feels both solid and firm. The rectangular design is fairly neat and does not reveal the 12x zoom range of the camera.
Canon PowerShot SX200IS camera lens
The lens starts with a nice wide angle of 28mm and finishes in telephoto range of 336mm. Naturally, the Canon SX200IS also features an effective optical image stabilization system, since it would not be possible to shoot handheld telephoto pictures without it. The 12 Megapixels resolution is more than enough and provides plenty of opportunities to edit the picture afterwards. The availability of auto settings with an additional EASY mode, and a wealth of preset scenes, will certainly appeal to the hobby or amateur photographer. On top of that, the Canon PowerShot SX200 IS provides a P/S/A/M mode; or in other words: an aperture/shutter priority mode and a full manual mode.

"The Canon SX200 IS is a 12.1 Megapixel camera with a 12x optical zoom lens on board, providing a range of 28-336mm. This combination is supported by Canon's optical image stabilization. A strong trump of the Canon PowerShot SX200 IS camera is the integrated DIGIC-4 processor, coming straight from the high quality EOS digital SLR cameras. The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS test photos were taken in Purmerend, the Netherlands with a full production camera which means that this camera is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase."
