|Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR digital camera review : Fujifilm started off the year by introducing their first digital compact camera equipped with the new Super CCD EXR image sensor. This newly developed sensor was introduced during the Photokina 2008 Show and is part of Fujifilm's strategy to try and stand out from the crowd once more. The 1/1.6 inch Super CCD EXR sensor is part of the EXR technology, which is able to use the image sensor in different ways in order to obtain the best possible settings for resolution, dynamic range and shooting in badly lit circumstances.
Fujifilm F200EXR equipped with Super CCD EXR sensor
Fujifilm’s approach to sensors is quite different, and they certainly are good at it; as demonstrated clearly by the many generations of Super CCD sensors prior to the EXR. Fujifilm manages to innovate time and again; albeit sometimes more successfully than other times, yet they are one of the manufacturers that have always succeeded to stand out the most when it comes to compact camera sensors. Whether the Super CCD EXR image sensor is the answer to the constantly increasing difference between the digital SLR and the compact camera, still remains to be seen, however, it does seem a step in the right direction. It is a dead end to keep increasing the resolution instead of actually improving the quality. Still, I can't get around the feeling that we have seen this approach from Fujifilm before, with the Super CCD generation of 2007. It makes you wonder what was wrong with the FinePix F31 in the first place, a camera that performs superbly when it comes to image quality.
Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR camera design
The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR with the onboard Super CCD EXR is one of a kind (so far). The other specifications may be average, but the actual combination makes the Fujifilm F200EXR a very interesting camera indeed. The camera is quite compact, although not ultra-thin. When it comes to the weight of the F200EXR, it can be called heavy, which provides a stable hand-fit. The quality of the housing feels solid. The 28-140 mm zoom range gives the photographer the freedom to run wild when it comes to beautiful landscapes during a vacation or anywhere else, and also provides an excellent focal length for shooting portraits.
Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR review including a DIWA Labs test
During my stay in Las Vegas (PMA 2009) I took some sample pictures, after which the SDHC card was filled entirely with even more pictures, in order to be evaluated later. Additionally, the Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR was extensively tested as for technical qualities in our Norwegian DIWA Lab managed by Kai Thon. The test procedures are standardized and are an excellent combination, together with the tests in practice, to be able to come to a final conclusion. Our findings can be read in the following Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR review.

"Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the Fujifilm FinePix digital camera, and to celebrate these 10 years of FinePix cameras, Fujifilm introduced a new image sensor during the Photokina; the Super CCD EXR. The hot topics of the past few years were the Fujifilm S5 Pro SLR and, of course, the famous Fujifilm F30fd and F31fd cameras. It is now time to take a look at the Fujifilm FinePix F200 EXR; the first camera that is built around the new Super CCD EXR sensor."
