Casio EXILIM EX-FH20 | Digital Camera Review | Conclusion
Casio Exilim EX-FH20 megazoom camera
With the EXILIM EX-FH20, Casio is showing that they are still able to be innovative. Launching the Hi-Speed function for the consumer market, even if it is somewhat restricted in its resolution at really high speeds, is a brilliant move. A move we certainly appreciate, if only for the fact that there are not many genuine innovations lately in the compact camera segment. On paper, the specifications are convincing and we can imagine that shooting at high speeds like these is very appealing.

Casio EX-FH20 Hi-Speed digital camera
During testing, the Casio EXILIM FH20 is a true speed monster. Casio's claim about the speed is actually true. And as can be seen by the many YouTube video clips, it is obvious that a specific group of Casio photographers is clearly attracted by the possibilities of Hi-Speed photography. When designing the Casio FH20 Megazoom, it is clear to us where the emphasis was.

Image quality of the Casio EX-FH20
In addition to the speed records which the Hi-Speed Casio EX-FH20 effortlessly exceeds, there is another (more important) aspect to the camera; the image quality. And it's this item that causes the Casio EXILIM FH20 some trouble in coming out of this test in one piece. If the shooting conditions are perfect, enough light, low ISO and optimal exposure, photographing is fine to excellent and the end result will be considered fine. However, these circumstances are not realistic - in practice, you will be confronted with high ISO values and badly lit circumstances and it's exactly then when the weakness of the camera can be seen.

Casio Exilim EX-FH20 review conclusion
Visible noise at relatively low ISO, loss of detail caused by the noise reduction of the camera, visible chromatic aberration, a limited dynamic range and an average performing zoom lens reduce the image quality of the Casio EXILIM EX-FH20. This obviously influences the final conclusion of this camera review. The camera or perhaps the entire Hi-Speed concept is not yet sufficiently developed. Clearly the market is ready for the Hi-Speed functionality and there is a demand for it; we also acknowledge the application possibilities for this kind of function. However, a corporation can’t lose sight of the image quality, and this is unfortunately what happened with the Casio EXILIM FH-20. We will patiently await the next, hopefully improved generation of Casio's Hi-Speed Megazoom cameras!
