|Casio Exilim EX-FH20 digital camera review : If there is one corporation that can be considered a pioneer of the digital camera, it is Casio. The company is famous worldwide and yes, still active in the field of watches and calculators. More than 10 years ago, the first Casio camera was launched on the market. With its 250,000 pixels 1.5 inch CCD, fixed focus and fixed focal point of 60mm, it was not a camera you'd pay attention to these days. Yet, the launch of the Casio QV10 in 1996 was the beginning of Casio's career as a camera manufacturer. Twelve years later, Casio is still very active in the camera market and although their market share shrunk significantly due to the presence of the traditional camera manufacturers, Casio is still alive and kicking.
Casio EX-FH20 Hi-Speed digital camera
'Innovation' is the keyword that best fits Casio and that is also how they manage to keep differentiating themselves from the crowd. They’ve done it again with the Casio EXILIM EX-FH20, the camera that is tested for this review. The Casio FH20 is the second sibling from the so-called 'Hi-Speed EXILIM cameras' and is positioned in a lower price class compared to its big brother; the EXILIM Pro EX-F1. The Casio EXILIM FH20 features a high resolution CMOS high-speed sensor and is able to shoot at a speed of 30fps at a resolution of 8 Megapixels and even at a speed of 40fps at a lower resolution of 7 Megapixels.
Casio EX-FH20 with 20x optical zoom lens
This is truly distinguishing and it is in fact this feature that makes the Casio EXILIM EX FH20 a special camera. In addition to the Hi-Speed mode, the camera also features a 20x optical zoom lens with support of an image stabilizer that is linked to the sensor. Which means the FH20 is a Megazoom camera with all-round features and as a plus, high speed photography capabilities. The standard resolution of 9 Megapixels is more than enough to provide poster-sized prints and the built-in video function with HD quality (1280x720 pixels, 30fps) also makes creative filming possible.

"While testing, we focused mainly on the picture quality. In my opinion, the Hi-speed video mode appeals only to an exclusive group of photographers and videographers. Besides that, the resolution of 224x56 pixels at 1000fps is too low to consider it a widely accepted final quality. However, we are aware of its potential and perhaps it’s only a matter of time before this functionality becomes available for a broader employ."
