Panasonic Lumix DMC FX150 | Digital Camera Review | Control
The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX is in the first place a compact camera for ease. A camera that does not require photographic skills, and a lot is left to the auto mode of the camera. And as far as all this is concerned; the Panasonic FX150 simply has it all. Its compact size and reasonably light weight make it possible to carry the camera with you at all times. Daily photography comes within reach for everybody, which is of course the strong point of a compact camera.

Adjusting aperture and shutter speeds
Yet, the Panasonic LUMIX FX150 enables manual choices too, which offers creative shooting. The so-called M-mode on the command dial offers direct access to adjusting shutter speeds and aperture. The aperture settings are rather limited; minimum and maximum aperture are possible, but that's about it. Still a bit poor, especially for those who want to stay in control of the exposure when trying to capture a difficult to expose picture.

From wide angle to telephoto zoom
The 3.6 optical zoom is quite precise to position. From wide angle to telephoto, we count twenty stops which makes framing easy and problem-free. The actual zooming is carried out fast, in approximately two seconds you can zoom from wide angle to telephoto and it takes the same amount of time to zoom out again. The camera is ready to shoot in 1.5 second, and after that it's only a matter of pressing the shutter release. Operating the menu is done quickly, and all the settings are found in no-time via the main setting. The iA mode is the simplest of modes, at which the menu has limited settings. The P mode offers access to items that take things one step further. This way, Panasonic keeps settings for novices and advanced photographers well apart.

Scene detection on the Panasonic FX150
In addition to the standard auto settings, the Panasonic LUMIX FX150 offers various convenient functions to make a photographer's life as comfortable as possible.

Panasonic Lumix FX150 test
For example; face detection, or one step further: scene detection, at which the camera detects and recognizes the optimal preset scene for the picture to be captured. In practice this works greatly. Now and then the camera seems indecisive as for its choice, which is usually caused by too high contrasts or sudden moves of the object.

ISO settings on the Panasonic camera
Not only auto selection of ISO is possible with the Panasonic FX150, also manual selection is enabled. And most convenient is the limitation you can set through the menu as for the maximum value ISO can be when letting the camera choose the ISO values. There is a standard choice of ISO 100 to 1600 ISO at which it is possible to set the maximum value to 400 ISO. A choice with quality in the back of one's mind while high ISOs in a compact camera often encounter difficulties to work noise-free.

Panasonic Lumix FX150 equipped with 25 scenes
Besides the auto scene detection, at which the camera detects five types of scenes, you can also choose from twenty-five additional scenes. This is quite an enhanced selection and consists, among other things, of film (granular), snow, portrait, party, baby and even from pet to fireworks and continuous shooting. There's something for everybody, and with this the Panasonic LUMIX FX150 proves itself to be a handy compact camera that lets you shoot daily moments without having to think about it.
