Panasonic Lumix DMC G1 Camera review | Conclusion
Panasonic Lumix G1 Micro Four Thirds camera system
The media warmly and enthusiastically received the introduction of the Micro FourThirds system. And although the announcement was made by Panasonic and Olympus together, Panasonic managed to surprise the entire world press by presenting the world's first Micro FourThirds camera at the last Photokina 2008 show. The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G1 became the talk of this event. And it may be called striking at the very least, that a non-traditional photo company took the lead during this event with photography as main theme. Panasonic put its stamp upon the Kina, one with an impressive impact.

Developed-through Live View function on the Panasonic G1
The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G1 is a system camera that managed to surprise me. The camera is unique in many ways and comes with a feature that makes you approach photography differently. Take Live View for example. A functionality that is not necessarily admired by everybody, however, it is developed-through by Panasonic, and once more introduced in the G1 camera. Live View will no longer step out of range. No more annoying focus delay; on the contrary, it offers extra functionality. The large vari-angle monitor is the topping on the cake and extremely convenient in practice. Makes you wonder why we no longer find the same functionality on DSLR cameras.

Pleasant to photograph with the Panasonic Lumix G1
It's very pleasant to shoot with the Panasonic LUMIX G1 in practice. The camera responds fast and is very user-friendly. The menu is well-structured enabling fast navigation. Thanks to the convenient Q.menu, an overview of all the main camera settings is available by pressing the button once. Whether it's the traditional P/S/A/M mode or the image editing and effects carried out on the images in-camera, everything is possible. The Panasonic G1 is a full system camera, with not much lacking.

Signal / noise ratio of the Panasonic Lumix G1
The technical tests carried out in the DIWA Lab show one point that needs improvement. We can witness the Panasonic LUMIX G1 at pair without a problem with the Olympus E-520 (Four Thirds DSLR) as for signal/noise ratio, however, at the higher ISO values, the G1 gets behind slightly. Performance is fine up to and including ISO 800 and without doubt useful in practice, however, I do expect Panasonic to be able to improve this. The dynamic range keeps up easily and the camera gains a superb result here.

Panasonic G Vario Lumix kit lens
One of the beauties of the Panasonic LUMIX G1 kit is undoubtedly the G VARIO f/3.5-5.6 14-45 mm ASPH LUMIX lens. A lens with an excellent performance that adds a surplus value to the camera. A lens like this gets the most out of the camera and certainly proves its worth, in practice as well as in the DIWA Lab. Panasonic made an excellent choice to standard equip the G1 with this lens!

Panasonic G1 ; Surprising, Striking and Complete system camera
This Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G1 has brought us to the eve of a new series of cameras based on the Micro FourThirds system. In theory, an extremely interesting development and in practice, the same as the LUMIX G1 shows us. The camera has convinced us, and is worth getting acquainted with. As far as we are concerned; surprising, striking and complete; recommendable without a doubt!

Panasonic G1

"The current camera models can be roughly divided in a twosome models: compact and DSLR. Yet a commonly heard wish is to be able to choose a camera with a compact build, yet with the qualities of a digital SLR. Although the current DSLR has considerably shrunk in size, the difference between both models is still vast. This difference however, is broken by the introduction of the Panasonic LUMIX G1."
