|Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Megazoom camera
This could well be the eve of the disappearance of the Megazoom camera. In my opinion, this could apply to the Panasonic assortment. The Megazoom camera is based on a concept that has been around for a while, and with the introduction of the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ28 it has become clear that no genuine change has been carried out to the camera. The huge change lies in the arrival of the Micro FourThirds standard. Panasonic is one of the driving forces behind this system. The Micro FourThirds camera could well replace the Megazoom camera in a while, and fill up the 'gap' in between compact cameras and DSLRs, which is what the Megazoom camera does now.
Panasonic FZ28 an allround digital camera
The success of the Megazoom camera is obvious; compact size, light weight and a large zoom range offering the same ease of use as a compact camera. The Panasonic FZ28 can hold its own and delivers an all-round camera. The large optical range in combination with the image stabilizer turns every newbie into a photographer. The ease of use is excellent and if you want to raise your skills, the camera offers sufficient setting possibilities to grow to the level of a DSLR camera.
Image quality of the Panasonic Lumix FZ28
The Panasonic DMC-FZ28 offers a solid and excellent image quality. The optical image stabilizer system enables shooting with relatively low ISO in order to considerably lessen the chance of image noise at 800 ISO and higher. Because this is one of the issues of the FZ28; the high ISO sensitivities are rather noise-prone and require precise exposure to keep some control over the quality.
Panasonic DMC-FZ28 equipped with a Leica objectief
The Leica lens performs superbly when it comes to sharpness, to the edges as well as in the centre. With the exception of maximum telephoto range, where visible blur in the edges is combined with a strong sensitivity to chromatic aberration which diminishes the quality. Panasonic has distortion very well under control thus adding a surplus value to the camera with this lens.
Panasonic FZ28 camera ideal for all-round photography
The Panasonic LUMIX FZ28 is a logical successor to its predecessor. It is a Megazoom camera perfectly updated for this time and age, thanks to the resolution increase, improved algorithms and powerful image processor. If you find a DSLR camera too complicated (large and heavy), or if you simply want a large optical zoom range in the most compact size possible; go for the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ28. The camera performs in the way you expect it to, no more, no less. Simply a superb camera for all-round shooting!
