Sony Cybershot DSC F828 | Digital Camera Review | Conclusion
The Sony DSC-F828 is introduced in August 2003 and was finally available in the last month of 2003. Until that time Sony was the first manufacturer able to deliver a digital camera with an 8 Megapixel CCD. A few months later, during PMA show in Las Vegas, the competitors appeared with their 8 Megapixel versions. The DSC-F828 remains a unique camera, concerning its design but also its equipment. Sony remains busy developing innovations and working on features like the accurate focus system and the excellent combination of the LCD display and the electronic viewfinder will be welcomed by the users with open arms. The DSC-F828 is the leading camera at this moment. The camera is the first one to use the new RGB+E sensor technology, a technique we will undoubtedly hear more about in the very near future. The speed of the camera is impressive; in fact it is one of the fastest digital cameras of its class. If Sony does enable the next generation to fully use the capacity of the internal buffer then it will be very difficult to ignore a camera like this one.

The colour reproduction of the camera is rich and full of contrast. The different colour modes have their own specific features, but the Real-color mode has my preference. In the past we used to see this very green grass on an image or neon yellow flowers, the colours of the DSC-F828 are true-to-life colours. No bleached colours but deep colours, which benefit the final print of an image.

The Sony DSC-F828 is very appealing to many amateur photographers. Sony approaches digital photography in his own specific way. Whether this is one of the reasons that professional photographers aren't interested yet, or not at all, still remains a question. The ingredients are at hand, some features can be further developed which will finally enlarge the acceptance of the professional. Sony's application of a CompactFlash memory card is an excellent move and is a welcoming addition for many. The CompactFlash memory card has an attractive price tag dangling on it, but also the Memory Stick is getting more attractive for the consumer. Prices are better than before and maybe even more important: the speed of the Memory Stick PRO memory card is one of the fastest amongst memory cards.

The DSC-F828 has a few considerable competitors, the one is more compact, and the other still lives on the concept from a few years ago. But one thing is for sure: the Sony DSC-F828 is a very attractive camera and in many respects a sound competitor for cameras like the EOS 300D from Canon. The marvellous bright lens with a 7x optical range is a strong trump for Sony. One who equips his system camera like the EOS 300D with a similar lens will be surprised of the final price that has to be paid for such a combination. The DSC-F828 is worth every penny, the camera has a lot to offer and is equipped with the latest technological innovations on digital photography; in short, if you meet this camera at you local dealer shop, don't hesitate and get to know Sony's latest showpiece, it's recommended!
