Olympus SP 570 UZ | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
Olympus, together with Fujifilm, have fully supported the small xD Picture memory card from the beginning. This type of storage medium has been available for many years now and is highly acclaimed by both manufacturers while storage capacities up to 8GB should be possible. The actual case now is that the capacity of the xD Picture card has come to a hold at 2GB and Olympus have to face the fact that the SDHC format of the competition is reaching a huge 32GB of storage capacity!

Olympus SP-570 UZ storage capacity
However; this amount of storage capacity would be an overkill for a camera like the Olympus SP-570UZ, since the largest format (RAW) is around 15MB of size. Still, a maximum of 138 RAW pictures on a 2GB card is the limit and that might be a restriction to a fanatic user. To purchase one or two more xD cards of 2GB is a solution. If Olympus keeps on going ahead with the Megapixel race at the same speed as before, it is of great importance to enhance the storage capacity of the xD Picture card, or follow the example of ally Fujifilm to support the SDHC format.

Considering 1 GB of storage capacity:

Olympus SP-570 UZ frame speed
The start-up time of the Olympus SP570UZ is slow compared to a standard compact camera, but once activated the camera is very much able to capture fast moments. Making use of the maximum resolution of ten Megapixels. a frame speed of approximately 1.2 fps (JPEG) with a maximum of seven frames captured sequentially is not sufficient, but if you settle for a resolution of 5 Megapixels you can count on more than 7 fps and a maximum of 30 pictures sequentially. That makes the Olympus SP-570 UZ excellent for shooting action moments.
Olympus SP-570UZ - USB 2 Hi-Speed
xD Picture memory cards are available in various speeds. The advantage of a faster memory card is rapid data transfer providing the computer and the device reading the card are equipped with a fast USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection. The Olympus SP 570 UZ Megazoom camera is equipped with such a fast interface. Or you can choose to purchase a card reader. This handy device needs to be connected to the USB port and is capable of reading a card and writing to it rapidly. The computer will recognize the device as an external hard drive. Additionally, you will also save energy.

Olympus SP570 - Alkaline & NiMH batteries
The Olympus SP570 is standard delivered with a set of AA sized batteries. The camera supports alkaline and NiMH batteries and besides that you can also get energy for your camera through an optional C8-AC power adapter. This adapter might come in handy when you connect the camera to a TV set and play your pictures through the camera. The advantage of AA format batteries is clear; they are ever so economical and available worldwide; which makes them an excellent choice. You can count on 300 pictures - 390 according to CIPA standard but taken in ideal lab circumstances - with one set of fully loaded AA batteries. With an extra set at hand you will be able to shoot a considerable amount of pictures.
