Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5 | Digital Camera Review | Conclusion
Panasonic TZ5 digital compact camera
Panasonic offer a successful and smart series of digital compact cameras and keep setting the world on fire. It will affect the market share in a positive way and obviously drive Panasonic to continue on this road and deliver many more Lumix cameras. The Panasonic Traveler Zoom series is one of Panasonic's winners and that is quite obvious. The design is beautiful and nicely finished with a compact format combined with a large optical range. Add to this Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S. and you get a concept that is as solid as a rock.

Panasonic DMC-TZ5 Traveler Zoom concept
Even though the concept is obviously successful, Panasonic has now come to a point where innovation and effective solutions are required. The bridge between the first models was innovative and the upgrade from the TZ3 to the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is more a logical refinement of a renowned concept. And this is where we would like to bring in some remarks for Panasonic's R&D department.

Improvements for the Panasonic Lumix TZ5
Take the use of high ISO for example; on the specification list it looks good, but in practice the effect of it is zero. The technique to actually use high ISO values effectively in practice has to be enhanced. The applied noise reduction is cause of the loss of detail, whereas the competition has proven that it is possible with effective noise reduction to still keep a lot of detail. Still the Panasonic TZ5 works better on this front than its predecessor. Also a small remark on the white balance. Too soon a manual white balance has to be used to filter the excess of incandescent light.

Panasonic DMC-TZ5 with HD Movie function
What's left after these few remarks is nothing but praise. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is an all-round camera that is at its best in many different circumstances. The addition of the HD Movie function allows the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 to make beautiful motion videos. Panasonic top up the circle of HD supporting devices within their own assortment (for example the large format High Definition screens). We are not easily impressed by video capturing functions in a camera; however; Panasonic proves otherwise.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 - Absolute must
The combination of an effective and powerful image stabilizer and a large optical zoom makes a very strong concept. Nothing beats having a camera loose in your inside pocket and being able to capture virtually any moment you want. The ease and user-friendliness are clearly present and we have no comments on these. If Panasonic works on the aforementioned remarks, in our opinion the concept will then be perfect. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is an absolute must for the photographer that wants to capture his or her moments in the most comfortable way!

Panasonic Lumix

"The 9.1-megapixel Panasonic TZ5 features a 28mm wide-angle 10x optical zoom Leica DC lens in a compact body and integrates the capability of recording 720p HD motion pictures together with its direct output function allowing users to watch both still and motion pictures in HD quality. The 28mm wide-angle lens makes it easy to fit the whole group into a photo indoors or to capture dynamic wide-perspective shots of a sweeping landscape or large architectural structure. The Panasonic TZ5 test shots are made in and around The Dom in Utrecht, the Netherlands with a full production camera model and should be judged accordingly."
